Also, Justin said they were offering 30% off for the show, though the Kenzie's were 1659, the Moghwai 1759 (?) and the Agharta were 3599 (?), before the discount! If anyone wants in, PM.

10% off the original MZ2, $200 off the "Deluxe" (with linear power supply). $50 more off if you want to carry it away tomorrow around 5pm. Show specials active for about two weeks, just email if you forget or lose the discount code.

Tomorrow I need to go listen to some ampsandsound amps, even if it's just one of them. Maybe if he can give me industry discount plus show discount plus demo discount I can take one home.

Also, Alex dropped off a PMx2, which are also at Darin's table, if anyone coming tomorrow wants to hear those.

Man, I wish you would have come and said Hi! I had no way of recognizing you :) I don't bite!

I'll be around tomorrow as well for some time. All SBAF attendees post here about where they will be mostly and maybe we can grab a quick bite at the food trucks together. Can talk about any awesome rooms etc.

Glad to hang out with everyone I did at this SHOW. Hope you all enjoyed it...believe me, a LOT of work went into making all this possible!

Sounds like (and looks like) it was good times!

Hope I can make it down to the SBAF International at LAX to meet more SBAFers later this year, since this weekend was a no go!

The Acapella stuff is really something special. I had the chance to listen to their huge showroom in Duisburg a few weeks ago.

Props, it really was a great show, I thought. I was just busy hustling around to get through my todo list, and when I saw you we were already in rooms listening,o r you were chatting with other folks. I heard most of what I wanted, and have even more choices than before. I was looking at speaker amp combos, and saw quite a few great ones.

@burnspbesq There is an Audionote UK room (1410), where the person in charge plays along on the Cello with his CD playing in the background, Vincent Belanger. Knowing how refined your musical acquity and knowledge is, you may want to check him out. I havent had an experience like it in decades, but it was (is) a hidden gem in this show.

Someone should go to the ELAC room and ask Andrew Jones for more details on their upcoming active speakers, especially if they plan to make active floorstanders.

Elac is distributed locally, as well. Let me see if I can find Mr. Jones today. They have two rooms, and one was so packed you couldnt even open the door.

An interesting piece of intel:'Audeze's deal with Apple doesn't allow them to sell the Cipher cable for SINE as a standalone aftermarket accessory.

Whoever recommended a visit to Room 208 was right: that room is really dialed in.

Onkyo +Mojo is some of the best portable sound I've ever heard, but the value proposition is for shit.

@Merrick I asked during his demo. He is going to transfer the designs and exact active modules for the active bookshelves to the floorstanders. The dsp and the process to do them for the sub will be translated to the active bookshelves. They are also going to make stand alone amps (?) with dsp for their passive book shelf speakers.

@Merrick the price for active vs bookshelf speakers are 800 vs 500. Not sure if the floor standers are the same.

@Wfojas Thank you! I'm hoping there's a similarly reasonable price differential for the active floorstanders, because I want those real bad.

Only had a chance to go yesterday morning. Had a B-Day party today and yesterday it was cub-scouts graduation.

    Anyhow.

The first floor of T.H.E. show was not disappointing to me. Nice flashy cars:

    IMG_4032.JPG

The following are the Reflex G7 Headphones driven by an Elekit DIY TU-8200DX:

    IMG_4035.JPG

The combo to me sounded fun and perhaps a bit u-shaped. Not annoying though. Good impact. Very elegant and nice looking set. The G7 driver is 40mm and I was told that the diaphragm material is proprietary. Impedance is listed at 32 ohms which should match well with portable applications. The cups swivel, but the particular demo pair seemed a little hard to adjust. Anyhow. Liked the combo.

The Elekit tube amp is listed for $725.0 and it's a 6L6GC Integrated Power Amp. It can be used to drive speakers (about 8W per channel depending on mode). The kit looks fairly attractive. Here is a pic of the internals:

    IMG_4039.JPG

Next I visited Parts-Express boot. Oh boy! All the speaker drivers I've been looking for quite sometime where there:

    IMG_4041.JPG

    IMG_4042.JPG

    IMG_4043.JPG

    IMG_4044.JPG

In particular, I salivated quite a bit about the Tang Band W4-1879 4" Full Range Driver. That little driver is heavy! and $$$

Next visited the headphone stuff. Heard the AudioQuest Nighthawk cans which I thought were warm and nice. Also checked out the microZOTL amp table which also had an SRD-7 driving some Lambda cans. These Lambda's actually fit me. I was told that the pads where replaced. Good classic Lambda sound signature. Here are the microZOTL and the Lambdas:

The ZMF where awesome out of the microZOTL:

    IMG_4050.JPG

Next I visited MrSpeakers table. At once I got my ears on his new up and coming electrostat driven by a black Blue Hawaii. I was told there are two different prototypes with the latest iteration sporting a thinner diaphragm, which is welcome since the older prototype seemed a bit difficult to drive:

    IMG_4055.JPG
I think the new prototype sounds better than the old which IMO was a bit too dark. The new prototype is warm relative to the Stax, and I welcome the signature difference. I actually liked the new prototype, and would probably be on the look when they get released. I was told that they are gong to be < $3K which is proly outside my range. Again, I welcome this new development and hope the final iteration sounds great.

    Next comes speakers.

This time around I heard the Revel stuff in a much larger room. Folks need to turn the volume a little lower and put decent music. I don't think the material I was hearing helped sell these.

    IMG_4057.JPG

Next to these where the Blades which were just sitting there doing nothing:

    IMG_4058.JPG

And here is the room I liked the most:

    IMG_4063.JPG

In the past I thought these (MBL Radialstrahler 101E) were electrostatic. I think I was wrong. These are dynamic it seems and require quite a bit of power to drive. They were reviewed by Stereophile in the past (http://www.stereophile.com/content/mbl-radialstrahler-101e-mkii-loudspeaker#hVbzL2KoFgJRiuwK.97)

I think the room was pretty well treated and demo material well chosen. Some big dude to my left lost his marbles and started to sob. The music was good. These can become a little lively though with some material. In any case, I liked what I heard in this room.

    I also heard these below...

    IMG_4064.JPG

... and walked away. Did not like.

Going up some floors (I think floor 2), everybody and their mother where showing up their amps and DACs with Wilson speakers. I think Wilson speakers are OK, but they did not blow my mind or anything.

    IMG_4065.JPG

Then came the KEF stuff. I like KEF stuff, said that before, say that now:

    IMG_4067.JPG

Then came the Scansonics MB1s which surprised me because they made me look around for a subwoofer. Picture is shitty. Sorry.

    IMG_4068.JPG

Also heard the Voxativ PI which IMO did not suck as bad as the other Voxativ I heard in there. There were IMO better though.

    IMG_4069.JPG

Another surprise was this little midget:

    IMG_4071.JPG

It's called the "SUN" by Trenner & Friedl. Here is a little linky with info (http://www.trenner-friedl.com/index.php?menu=product&sprache=en&second=sun). Boy did these played low. They have 4 little ports at the bottom of the enclosure. It's a 2 way coaxial design, which is supposed to reach 55 Hz in a 210 x 160 x 140 mm enclosure which I like lots! Dunno the $ though.

Another pleasant surprise where the Stein V6. I found these pretty good unlike other similar designs I've heard in the past.

    IMG_4072.JPG

Other folks have already commented about the Stein room, and I agree. These were very good.
