Hey, sometimes you just need a lightweight shoe that can go from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive with the flip of a strap! Lol.

 

Yes we may laugh but what that also tells us that we do not understand the world of our ancestors. I do not think that back in 1647 people would have laughed at the picture. The fish is an obvious symbol for the Christian faith and back then a pet cat meant that you were rich. So that picture conveys that the girl (dressed like an adult which tells us that childhood was very different to what it is now) is pious and rich. If you pay an artist for a portrait iyou may as well make sure that he conveys the message you want.
Sometime I wonder whether our times where most things are obvious and and to be taken literal does not miss a certain type of magic.
