Very nice post! I think learning this stuff and buying a colormeter might actually be worth it then in my case. I was always critical of image quality in general and the test confirms I'm a picky bastard since i also scored 0. Did this on an iPhone, guess the factory calibration is pretty good.

    Cool stuff!

We just watched it again. Same crappy 2008 720p 37" Toshiba, no special calibration but this time using the 'sport' pic preset instead of 'standard'.

Maybe it was that, maybe it was having seen it before and therefore being able to mentally fill in the gaps, maybe it was because everybody else wasn't watching at the same time - but, despite some black blocking being noticeable, it didn't seem too bad. Obviously it was night time and chaotic, but most of what needed to be seen was visible.

Future battle scenes will be watched using 'sport' mode. Rather GOT than football.

    Any predictions for tonight's show?

Will anyone of any significance kick the bucket?

Any reemergence of the white walkers?

Will Danny be pregnant or anything weird like that?

Who the heck knows anymore at this point...

I suspect tonight will be glue between Ep3's battle and the start of the battle for the iron throne.

Then Ep5 starts the battle, Ep6 concludes.

I wouldn't see much value in Dany being pregnant, with so little story left. And probably bucket-kicking will have to wait for Ep5 at least.

With the possible exception of one or more of Bron, Jaime, Tyrion (or someone trying to defend one or both brothers - eg Pod, Brienne).

When I was in school for graphic design we took this test and I scored a 4, the best score the teacher said he had ever seen from a male student, and the best in our class. This was on the mediocre Dell displays in the classroom, I'm confident if I did it at home on my Ultrasharps I could do even better.

I just did it on a MBP retina from 2017, got a 3 4 (which means that just a couple of patches were flipped over), then I went back to see the patches that were off and they looked right, switched them around and they looked wrong. I asked a couple of people and they had the same observation. Removed the black borders and it became obvious that there were some slight luminance / chrominance errors on the display of said patches. This level of gradation can highlight display / color conversion issues, I think this test should be performed on a properly calibrated display.

Those are some uh, interesting 'best and highest' scores, but still pretty neat overall. Glad to know I'm halfway decent at color vision stuff.

Done using a Dell Ultrasharp thats been calibrated to Adobe RGB, so its definitely my eyes/brain that are holding me back on this one. Could do the test again using a standard color gamut to see if it matters any to the test, but I suspect it wouldn't affect it much.

It's the same test as on the x-rite site and there are other factors they mention there:
    • Did you know that your score on this test is influenced by the lighting around you, the background colors at your desk area, your level of tiredness, your gender, and even your age?

I am more pleased than I should be that these 40 year old eyes were able to get a zero on an uncalibrated Alienware 3418DW (though I did download a profile from the internet that was supposed to be pretty good).

I got banding artifacts with the dragons in the dark sky and clouds, but otherwise no issue with the dark scenes. I watched on my plasma in a dark room. I actually appreciated what they were trying to do.

However, it's still a fail. The fail goes to the colorist / director / producers (for this function). HBO is fricking TELEVISION, not FILM. They should have known better and realize what that they see on their calibrated industry high-end Sony OLEDs or laser projectors in their screening rooms (someone does approve it) may not have translated into LCD TVs, which the majority of people have in their homes.

It's training and being anal retentive, unless you are actually colorblind. All the colorists I know in the industry are old guys. Not a fun job. Look at color all day and take breaks so eyes don't start bleeding.

That was a pretty cool test, although I did find my eyes straining a bit on a few of the finer differences. Ended up with a score of "7", which doesn't seem too bad.

My teenage daughter is an artist and loves colors. In fact she has an app that is basically this type of test turned into a game - it's called "I Love Hue" (http://i-love-hue.com/), so if you really like this stuff then check it out.

Thinking I'll have her try the test and see how she does with her young eyes!

More Starks will kick the bucket. Dunno at this point which one(s). It's somewhat open. Proly Sansa.

Same with Lanisters. Two will kick the bucket (Cersei for sure). Throw the dice on that one. Proly Jamie.

White Walkers may comeback. Bran is weird. That dude is now a robot.

There might be significance to the surviving of Big-Fat-Frodo, Capt. Phasma, Obi-Wan-Davos, and Sonsa. Wasn't Varys supposed to die?

Either Danny or Idiot will die. Probably Danny. But if she is pregnant, then Idiot dies. Or becomes a red walker or something.

I respectfully disagree. But shit, let’s face it, anything and I mean anything could happen. That said, I think they take a break from most dying tonight. Maybe one main character, but they need what they have left to finish the storyline. So a few side characters might bite it to cut the payroll, but no major ones go tonight. Can’t believe they would do in Dany at this point. Bran maybe. Sam?? He does have to pay for his actions in Ep3.

    Hahaha, love this post.

I think Danny will die, the Lanisters all die except Tyrion, Sansa dies, Jon Snow kills himself from the guilt of incest, and Arya takes the throne.

    Fingers crossed.

Pod the rod Tripod Payne would be the only character I'd genuinely be sad to see die at this point.
