I still find Head-Fi to be of value for local meets, as there aren't many headphone enthusiasts from my local area. The large user base for the classifieds is also of value to me.

I am fairly active on Head-Fi still. I really like the vintage receiver thread and I search for modding ideas pulled from the HE6 thread to use on my HE400's. Sorbothane thread too. However, Music Alchemist kind of shits on everything no matter the thread, talking about the MT220/Stax 207 being better than every flagship phone...

I like following the schiit threads for Jason and Mike's posts. But lately that poster named bretemm and his spamming has made me consider to leave the site for good.

Basically only post on the HE-6 thread with mods and advice. Need to insult Musical Alchemist when he steps in to make him leave.

Didn't that tool spam that thread for a couple weeks, then decided not to get an HE6? He's probably currently creaming his pants over the newest FOTM. Or spewing some nonsense about how an entry level STAX destroys every headphone out there [which he hasn't heard].

Probably the most cringeworthy poster on HF.

I had a moment of realisation at head-fi not long ago that reminded me of that time when you were 20 or so at a bar and an impossibly good looking girl/guy started talking to you and it was going really well and they were laughing and you were laughing and they were giving you compliments and playing with their hair and biting their bottom lip and then you suddenly realised they were just trying to sell you on a new brand of vodka.

Again I hope you guys understand my intention of starting this thread is not to bash/troll head-fi.

IMHO, The key point of the audiophile community is sharing information/opinions/recommendations on great sounding and high value for money (new or old) equipment so as to maximise our music enjoyment. The way some things are going on at head-fi isn't doing the above for sure.

This thread should be view as a matured/informative/balanced discussion on pointing out what's (subjectively/objectively) wrong with how things goes around in head-fi(which could happen to any other audiophile forums, including SBAF).

Hope this thread will help others to understand that not every equipment sounds "wonderful" because some 10000 post head-fier or Jude said so. :p

I still visit head-fi from time to time.

IMO, despite however the community has turned out for you guys, it's still a pretty good place for getting to know some people, befriending them, and going to meets, seeing and listening to newer gears.

Some may not agree with me, but I must admit... Head-fi is still one of the largest headphone communities around, and so... exposure to amount of gears and people is just more maxed out there as opposed to here, where everyone knows better, so most of them go only for the bestest of gears, but then that kinda makes meets a bit more limited in terms of selection (for instance, I was at a meet yesterday that had like... 6-8 pairs of HD600/650).

I mean... not to say that the meet itself was bad. I am actually guilty of purchasing only what's the bestest (to my ears), too. And I enjoyed meeting old/new friends, conversing with them, having lunch, doing DAC comparisons, etc... but still, I'd like to try the odd stuffs every now and then, too. Maybe I can do an Amazon purchase and then return, but that'd get old pretty fast. So... Head-fi meets are still good places for that. Who knows, I might just discover a shocking setup someday.

Then there're the people. There are some decent folks over there who do now know of SBAF yet. I won't try to pull them over here (for obvious reasons), but then I still need a way to communicate with them, so...

That being said, it is also quite obvious that I spend about 80-90% of my time on here, writing impressions, posting about my mad (un)scientific experiments, and conversing with friends. I loved the atmosphere at Changstar, and SuperBAF has been nothing but improved upon on that legacy. For the community as a whole, I've met and befriended more folks here, and they are all fantastic people. I feel privileged to be here, whereas with Head-fi, it's more a means of communication than as a community for me these days.

For sure HF is larger and that brings some benefits to it (classifieds, for one. But mainly if you live in N.America), but I prefer only being exposed to the bestest gear. I probably have a little less disposable income than most here, so SBAF's ability to cut through all the hype is very valuable to me.

Yes. And I kept telling to try certain things that were impossible unless you owned the headphone which he obviously doesn't and can't. HA!

Plus listening to something once at a meet with suboptimal gear automatically makes him an expert.

I'd like to follow him around thread just to ask him if what he's chasing next is in his imagination or IRL.
As you can tell, he seriously annoys me.

HAHA. In the same boat as you. It's not the right time for me to spoil myself right now, so cutting through bullshit gear is always a plus.

What's he chasing nowadays? I think he sold his entry level STAX lol. Funny thing is that I don't even follow him, he just appears in every thread giving bad advice to newbies.

The key to handling a high-volume, noisy forum is to be very free with the Block/Ignore functionality. About the time you start noticing that a particular poster is frequently annoying, just Block/Ignore them. You'll end up with threads that are 60% ignored posts, but what's left will be much, much less annoying.

The Head-Fi meets can be fun but the site has many members who will defend inferior gear to no end, have hilarious listen 50 db to save their hearing beliefs, Grado pushers, etc. Then you have the "Headphones for metal music: The Final Solution" thread which is nuts with the crazy Russian guy searching to make his grindcore euphonic and the one idiot who listens to dynamically compressed melodeath with digitally reamped guitars whining about how all these headphones don't have realistic enough mids for his computer metal . He can only use STAX, the one brand of headphones outside of Grados and uh the Sony 7506 that do not give any weight to his downtuned, distorted death metal guitars. Complaining about grain when the Swedes he listens to detuned to B, plugged their guitars into a high gain distortion pedal they dimed every knob on to make a buzzsaw tone, and then plugged that into a JCM 900 with gain on 11 for the bee swarm. It's supposed to sound like that. Do you know what also use dynamic drivers? Guitar amps!

I find head-fi to be a valuable source of info, just as I find this place. Obviously they are larger, and you have to put in a little more effort to find topics you're actually interested about. Head-fi is akin to a supermarket, where as SBAF is more like a farmer's market. Both serve their purpose in my opinion.

If you invented that word "Staxhole" then I assume you once thought "Man, I really need to dig this hole. You know what I am going to use my Stax headphone because I can..." You must be so Metal.
