Haha, I used to go see those guys when they were Metal Skool and played cover songs in a bar in San Diego every Wednesday. Always some crazy times at their shows. I can't believe they hit it big enough to be mentioned here by someone from the Netherlands!

I should do this. Even though I don't post I do read if I'm googling about done industry news or whatever.

I would say that I "infrequent" head-fi these days. I go once a month or so when a new product is announced or I get curious about something specific. It is large, and has a glut of info hidden away. However, I cannot remember the last time I posted.

Interestingly, I don't use the block/ignore feature. I rarely climb onto HF, but when I do, I want the inane noise as much as the information. I like to be balanced in my consumption of ideas; something about not being ignorant to what vocal persons in the hobby think about stuff. They also drive the products.

Truer words have not been spoken. I guess having HF "unfiltered", even with the spammage, allows me to assess which products are being hyped. Of course, a lot of the times, it ends up in me wanting to take a bullet to the head because of posters who go full retard.

A lot of us are scientists at heart, so unbiased information with no selection bias is the way to go.

If I google a product, because I'm looking for peoples' experience of it, I'll look at the HFs results. I'll even look at the vomit-inducing front page occasionally to see if anything new looks interesting.

I find that I take "reviews" with an increasingly large pinch of salt. This is not because I think everything sounds the same (although I have tired of a lot of audiophile stuff) because it doesn't, and even with people that I know (at least online) and trust, I've learnt that their audio success and my audio success may be far apart.

^ With such increases in salt intake, I'm more worried about your blood pressure. Can't be good for the kidneys too.
You need your kidney in good condition you know, for that moment where you really need to buy an Orpheus mk.II or so...

Basically, I've found my happy place, here at SBAF. While I still pop in to check on threads that I'm subscribed to, I find the community aspect here more engaging as well as less restricting.

Head-fi is still great for three things:
    1. Organizing and finding the large regional meets.
    2. The "For Sale" forums.
    3. Breaking news.
Unless I'm mistaken, that is about it.

You have a very good point there... but I use almost zero salt in cooking, so I can stand a bit.

On the other hand, the sudden increase just might be connected to those dizzy spells I've been getting

I thought I was going to get my list of active, subscribed HF threads down to zero very, very soon. It's just gone up by one!

    Thanks \/

I use it for the vintage thread(s) and the classifieds

and rarely hype train derailing crusades, which do not work, and get me banned from the thread

I was never big HFer anyways. Just made 100+ to be taken more seriously over there. I used to play cricket so 100 has always been a magical number for me.

Yeah Music Alchemist pretty much killed the metal thread. I only post on Head-Fi to discuss Violectric amplifiers. Doing that here would kill my street cred!|\/|

Yes, but I like it here since there aren't 10 million threads. It feels like it's more member-centric rather than a new product gangbang.

So what exactly is Music Alchemist doing to kill threads? I've always enjoyed talking to that fellow - but I don't know what going on over there these days.
