Jomashop basically buys what is called "new old stock", so stuff that's been sitting around who knows how long. Oil gets old, etc.

The problem is that their warranty is total crap and they are known for screaming at people who call them up with a newly bought watch that doesn't work. Having said that, you could be fine with them.

Oh, and Motion in Time are known shysters as well, stay away.

Buy the seller, not the watch, as they say.

I would look at watchrecon and chrono24 to get a sense of what's out there, but gray market warranties are crap. You get what you pay for. And yet, buying new from a boutique is foolish. So, the trick is to find a trusted dealer who gives you a discount but still stands behind their work, or buy cheap and have a trusted watchmaker to hand.

Do both watches have sapphire crystal? It's worth the extra $ as "hardened crystal" scratches and they can be a bummer. Just a thought. Also, is the Sinn larger? Size is another factor. They are both nice pilot watches otherwise.

Edit: I looked up the Sinn and it's anti-magnetic, claims added shock-resistance (may or may not be a special thing for this), and has a sapphire crystal. It's 38.5mm, that could be small on a big wrist or perfect on a smaller wrist. 200m water resistance. Eta 2824-2 movement, reliable. RGM services Sinn watches, they are great.

The Oris has a sellita movement, a copy of the Eta but cheaper, it's 41mm, 100m water resistance (doesn't matter). Not anti-magnetic (matters). Has sapphire crystal, that's good.

I'd think about size, that could throw it either way. All things equal, go Sinn.

I ended up getting a Hamilton Khaki 42mm with the new-ish 80 hour power reserve.

Nice! A long power reserve is a good thing to have.

Elegant indeed. Love their designs, and their prices are affordable --- but they make them too big for my wrist.

My daily is a Sinn U2 purchased at their factory in Frankfurt. A beast of a watch, made out of the same steel used for German U-boat submarines then hardened and PVD'd. Waterproof to 2000M with a copper sulphate dehumidifying capsule. All overkill for my desk based life.

I really like German toolwatch styling, however Sinn only does it for me starting with their mid-class models. The 556 always felt too a bit overpriced just for the Sinn logo.

Check out Damasko for less brand pedigree, but what's in my opinion a better value for the money.

The Damaskos are great. I've tried a few. Personally, their styling just never did it for me, and they don't use TOP grade movements like Sinn.

I'm not too crazy about how Damasko place their logo on the dial. Other than that - it's a great option to have. Higher up Damaskos supposedly use modified movements with some cool tech.

Been looking at getting a Zenith open grande date.

I know this style of watch seems to be love or hate, I just love seeing the movement from the face. And this is probably the nicest open heart under 10k usd.
Anyone want to try convince me to get something else?

Hey there, Zenith is pretty unique among high-end watches. They march to their own drummer (often using high-beat movements) and their style is their own.

I'd say go for it! They are great watches and you won't see another in a room full of watches on wrists. There's a lot of history behind their classic 5hz El Primero chronograph movement, too.

For open dial watches or skeletons, you have to go either up a tier and many more $$$$s or down a tier or two.

    Here's a Tissot skeleton:

Tissot's a solid brand, lots of Swiss wear Tissot's.

Raymond Weil also has an open dial, this comes in white dials, gold accents, different bracelets, on a strap, many options:

Neither of these are anywhere near as good in any way, movement, case quality, etc., as your Zenith!

You won't go wrong with the Zenith. As Kunlun said above, they march to the beat of their own drummer. You might also want to check out the Frederique Constant Manufacture Heart Beat models:

    http://frederiqueconstant.com/collections/manufacture/heart-beat-manufacture/

A step down in cost, with a different style. I've worn my Frederique Constant for over seven years and I'm still happy with it.

I'm thinking about getting the blue Pelagos as a second watch to my Panerai Radiomir. I want a watch that I can swim with and can take a little more abuse. I tried it on the other day and it looks great in person.
