Pretty much this for me as well.

Relaxed, ate some pies, drank some milk, and enjoyed music/sound/noise. :punk:

So you spent $400 for a headphone and $500 for a girlfriend experience?

The latter was paid for in hot chocolate and a foot massage actually. And.. Probably hundreds of dollars spent over the past two years..

I got my Black Friday Sennheiser HD 598 Special Edition. They are absolutely and definitely not good headphones. The measurements might look OK but the sound is completely unconvincing and unnatural. I ebayed them as soon as was practicable (just moved house) and made my money back. Why do HD 598 have a good reputation? They sound remarkably like the budget Sennheiser earpad 'phones HD 239 and similar, which would be OK if they cost £40 but is very much not OK for an "audiophile" headphone that currently retails in UK at £185. At least the cheap earpad 'phones block a bit of noise and add a little low frequency warmth. They are even built of very similar, rather cheap, materials as the HD 2#9 series. I think the £75 Black Friday price I paid was too much. These surely didn't cost more to manufacture than some bargain basement Superlux. If I'd paid the regular price I probably would have wept.

Anyway I now understand why Tyll stated "Don't think I'll be reviewing the 598, just doesn't quite do it for me." in the chat after the original Momentum review at innerfidelity http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/very-adult-sennheiser-momentum I get the impression that Mr. Hertsens was offering the diplomatic and overly generous polite version of his opinion of the 598.

Personally I think they are just crappy, and next to my 1st gen circumaural Momentums they are a bad joke. Paying for them and then listening was about as gratifying as a fart in an elevator. That would be someone else's fart.

Thank god for ebay and for the gazillion positive reviews on the www by people who never heard something better.

I know the Momentums were never flavour of the month at changstar but 3 years after Tyll's review of them I still think he nailed that review in identifying and describing their great sound and the slightly challenging fit. I just wish my ears were a bit smaller and my head a bit narrower, but that's the price I have to pay for being a nosey brainiac.

Have you thought about the Momentum 2.0? They're both bigger and fold. I'm tempted by the current price of $249 (+10% off from headphone.com). I haven't heard them though.

I've had my original Momentums for a little over 18 months now and I do find them more comfortable than at first, such that I often wear them for hours and am content. I think the pads do slowly wear in to fit a little better. I'm still very, very impressed with the sound and that they work so well with all kinds of devices.

I'd be interested in the 2nd gen Momentums if someone else paid for them. The same color as my 1st gen (brown) are about £250 here ($370 US). Moving home has proven to be an astonishingly fast and effective way to be separated from my money so I'm planning on buying exactly nothing audio related except used CDs for quite a while.

Was a little before Black Friday, but I picked up an Amazon Echo when they dropped the price for Prime members. Love it to pieces. Not replacing a real speaker setup any time soon, but her "smart" functionality is quite fun. Going to get a Smarthings hub soon so she can turn my lights on and off for me.

Also got a new computer mouse on Black Friday. Logitech Marathon mouse. Decent fit in the hand, has hyper scroll. Happy.

Not a damn thing. Still, I got that Dayton Audio SUB-1200 sub on sale on Dec 30 for $120 including shipping and tax! :headbang:

Will post impressions and stuff once it gets here. It's still in route.
