The specific advertising on it being a Class AB amp and passive crossover does tell me that they seem to be focused on a certain sound quality, and not just shoving some cheap class D and DSP in there. So they may have some potential (as a powered nearfield).

I can understand not going for active DSP. They are a turntable company and it's an all analog chain from source to speakers. You could easily surpass $400 with separate bookshelf speakers and amps. They even look good with different finishes.

Actually I've been using 600Ω HD-25 headphones mostly but they stay parked on my desktop. Would be nice to have to use them with laptops if the output is respectable.

As someone who uses an android tablet several hours a day and has for many years, USB-C is at the borderline where when I fall asleep with the tablet on the bed and it falls, it'll rip the socket out of the pcb instead of bending the plug.

You're probably right, and I was overthinking on the USB-C thing. I've been using various USB-C things for a year and I like how easy the cable system is plus the added future features.

Micro USB drove me nuts with the Chord Mojo, was forever replacing cables which wore out. USB-C seems much more sturdy. Although I understand its size limitations, plain old USB-A and USB-B are still my favourites.

It's not that bad. Generally the lack of reflections make the listening experience hyper focused with laser etched imaging, but scale always suffers. Outdoors you at least have some ground bounce.

What I did listen to was an array of speakers in an anechoic chamber, simulating an orchestra playing in a concert hall. That was pretty cool, and pretty realistic.

It depends if the speakers have a flat frequency response when measured outside or do they use roomgain to sound balanced. No need to carry your speakers outside: use pink noise and Etymotic IEMs. Should get you pretty close. I recommend watching some of Grimanis training videos on YouTube.

Still the t50rp is like $150 and pads and tuning stuff shouldn't be $150. Also no assembly costs.

I don't know if Japan has some kind of VAT that doesn't apply to the USA. The price of the assembled T50RP is ¥25000 which is ~$230. Seems like a lot more than the US price.

Pricing has me scratching my head but glad to see they're actually paying attention to what people do with them.

Was obviously joking but not I'm curious about Intel graphics chips. For cutting edge performance I would obviously go with Nvidia or Radeon. But if I want something good enough (and available) Intel doesn't seem so bad. They also don't make cards so DIY could be viable.

But this is faaaaar too much work

@Sqveak Scooped! Haha apparently Intel's discrete card is targeting the lower-end, productivity-focused group so Pokemon Ruby and Emerald are still safe. Can't recall if they plan to release it on its own but it's stuck with prebuilt systems for now IIRC
