Pretty good deal on the HD 700 at $317. I think these are returned rather than actually used, correct me if I am wrong. Good thing I had a chance to audition them, or else I would be all over these.

@ultrabike - yeah I was surprised when I got a loaner pair. Everyone I spoke to pretty much told me to steer clear of them, but I had the opportunity for a loaner so I thought I would check them out. I still prefer the HD800 and 650, but after careful tweaking of iZotope's EQ, I got them sounding very nice indeed. When they were at the $799.99 price point, I think that was too much for the HD700's. Now that you can get them brand new for around $440 on Amazon, I think they are worth that, especially if you tweak them a little.

 

Agreed @ultrabike - I go my pair used and at an extremely exceptional price (which I won't say here). The only issue with the used HD700's I got is that on the left side, the HD700 logo is peeling off - but the headphones themselves are in exceptional condition.

 

KEF Q100 for $299 (saving $250) straight from Amazon.

For people that like that sort of thing, it's the sort of thing they like.

 

In this comparo, the Q100 didn't fare that well compared to the Philharmonic AA. For 200 bucks, the latter is probably worth consideration.

 

Pretty different animal, but I really enjoyed the Kef Q900s while I had them. I ended up moving on to Ascend Acoustic Sierra Towers with ribbon tweater. I still need to get around to hooking my headphone source to my speakers, would probably be awesome. I've only used an Onkyo TX-NR818 receiver as source over the years (part of my theater). I'll probably regret mentioning this as someone will tell me about some speakers I could have purchased that are better than the Ascends for less ;D

Anyway, my reason for posting was to mention Ascends CMT-170SE. They're slightly more than the Q100, but based on my experience with the 170s as surrounds I'd guess they probably stomp on the Q100.

 

I have Kef q900 in my home theatre 5.1 system right now, I really enjoy them too. They were my final stop after a few upgrades. Started very low end with onkyo htib speakers.

Yeah, they don't mention a warranty on their page either. If they had mentioned it, most good credit cards would have your back for the extent of what Focus claimed + 1 year.
