I'm very hesitant to buy the original nighthawks now. The new nighthawks (newhawks? Nightowl? Really audioquest?) look interesting, but if they offer a solid improvement over the previous version, it'd be easy to regret buying them (the old ones) because of their discounted value alone.

Especially now with the new MSRP of the nighthawks coming out, their second-hand value should go down a bit more.

 

In the HF thread, the AudioQuest rep said there should be no sonic differences between the old Nighthawks and the new ones other than what the new pads and cables provide, and those will be available separately to purchase.

 

I'm feeling somewhat skeptical about that, and will wait for measurements/reviews. It doesn't seem like there would be any reason to discount the old Nighthawks so heavily if that were the case, but this is speculation on my part.

He did also say the new ones have tighter manufacturing tolerances.

 

Good point about the used old NH market, The old nighthawk was always an interest for me and I might just spring for one if the used market continues to drop.

Was stuck on voting line and missed this. Thought it might be at least a few hours before selling out completely. Oh well, will just have to continue to rely on my trusty HD 600.

I take solace that (1) the HD600 gets more headtime anyway and (2) of the thousands of people that impulse bought, guaranteed we'll see used traffic for the HD6XX shortly, just like with the K7XX (which I also impulse bought, regretted, and sold).
