Yes, that is the point. A lot of screen space. I have always used multiple screens, but the the 34" Dell looks might fine and has excellent calibration.
I do a lot of remote collaboration, and I prefer to have whatever's happening from a UC perspective on a separate screen. I'll keep mail on that screen, too - usually the laptop screen. I could probably use an ultra-wide for certain stuff that needs the real estate.
I am still getting used to it, but I just swapped from dual 24" 16:10 monitors to a single ultrawide 35" I like that I have more airspace now that my overall screen space is smaller and I don't feel like I have lost too much from a productivity standpoint. I love it for gaming and entertainment, but do miss a secondary screen when in fullscreen mode. I may get a smaller 22 or 23" to mount above the ultrawide.
I use an HP 32" 4k and the MBP retina, the big arranged above the little. By "ultrawide", do you mean just a big monitor (and 2k/4k resolution), or 21:9 aspect ratio (which is what I'd call "ultrawide").
For me it's not so much about the sizeā¦I can't stand to see the pixels. Before the 200+ ppi screens, I used an Acer 1920x1200 24" that was dense enough you wouldn't see'em.
