Yeah, this is a Numark TT100 from the late 90s, with a 20 year old Shure M35S cartridge. I'm not even sure how terrible that is in the grand scale.

When dealing with small spaces, it’s worth understanding the role of reflections on psychoacoustics. Linkwitz (not a fan of his speakers) nevertheless wrote some practical stuff on this. Basically, you need a >6ft round additional delay for reflected paths compared to the direct audio path. Rear walls especially problematic. Consider serious (non-commercial) room treatments first if this is not the case.

Had some time with the V2 few years back and really liked it. Heard the SE earlier this year and honestly might like that a little bit more.

If I could afford a pair I'd definitely get one along with upstream to do it justice. Haven't tried V1 but have played with the V2 during multiple store demos listening to loads of stuff. Bit bright but not enough to be a massive bother to me. The ethereal presentation is genuinely awesome.

Which ones did you get? I picked up some Pangea power cables a few years ago when they went on ultra cheap closeout. Like you, I think they made a very slight difference with the black background. For under $50, I think they were a decent deal. I wouldn't pay more for a comparable improvement.

For me having music playing makes work more enjoyable.

@DigMe - I can totally see that. I just can't be productive with music in the background. Acceptable work use for me would be music breaks and just do that. One or the other, not both.

They say it's the "type" of work being done. Mindless work + music seems to make it more enjoyable, whereas with anything requiring more mental engagement music becomes a distraction. YMMV of course.

Well there was loads of talk about the HD650 getting Aximili-d around the time HD660S was released but now we have a new Batman version (that hopefully is sonically identical?).

I'm mistrustful of Sennheiser reps when it comes to products being discontinued now.

Still haven't heard better synergy with the Utopias. With some tube rolling it can really be a hard to beat pairing. The impedance matchup is perfect, takes off the metallic edge and ups the sub-bass a bit. Try Stellia pads for a near-basshead presentation.

I've swapped to some Dekoni hybrid pads, which are not fenestrated, and this bass is nuts. How is this possible with a 40mm driver? It's not bloated, distorting or overbearing either.
