Imagine an etched bionanofiber ortho diaphragm. There's probably a good reason why many orthos use PET/Mylar films, but surely other materials could be explored with enough investment to trial and error (why not even PEN/PEI/PEEK?)

I want to get on this list since I've been looking for a planar. Only thing is that there's a 18-19 week wait time which is bonkers. I say that and then realized while I'm typing that the keycaps on my keyboard took 1 1/2 years to get to me. But that's $200 compared to $2k, lol.

I ordered double sided, in the hopes that it tilted more neutral with slightly better technicalities. Would be great to hear about your choice from single-siders as well.

I literally had a family member say that the HD800 (SDR and rug liner modded) sounded the exact same as my old Klipsch HP-3. Yeah uh... right.

I buy earphones for my wife. Nothing fancy, but she certainly knows/hears the difference between the cheap/nasty ones and the better ones.

XX people can hear such things, of course. It is just that they don't tend to become audiophiliacs like XY people do.

You might want to consider headphones that have volume limiters to keep them from deafening themselves. I gave my 5 year old the JBL JR300 and that has worked well. Koss probably sounds better, but need to watch the volume if the device they are using doesnt have a limiter.

@Raimei Templar my v young niece kept asking me to turn the volume up when she tried my LCDs and I was scared at how loud she wanted to listen! hardware vol limited is a great idea.

Bought this on 4k recently and introduced my 12-year old daughter to it. Proud father moment, right there, haha.

But in the depths of the machine (or the internet) it really is all data. Just data. I know some audiophools just hate the idea of just ones and zeros. Tough shit.

Bitrates, electrical noise, and physical noise aside, the performance drop I noticed right away is library management. Thousands of albums and their metadata need faster I/O than playing lossless content.

Yes. That might well take more than playing the music.

There was 800 love on this site, then the 650/6XX, and now I hope the 600 gets its due. Not that there aren’t fans here, but it really deserves more than being in the shadow of its siblings.

@Claritas this time Stellaris and Euforia with Spring 2. Last time I didn't emotionally connect with it, if that makes any sense.

@dubharmonic That makes perfect sense. Emotional connexion is what matters most. Without it, I have little desire to listen. And HD-600 can be hard to connect with, because it sounds like nothing special. There's no wow factor. It's swell that you're giving it another go. I wish you luck with it.

The Bathys I haven't heard just yet, getting a pair in next week. But told by my colleagues who heard it, generally decent and a well tuned ANC headphone. On the technicalities it is generally good/better in DAC mode. And it is quite a punchy headphone

So with that built-in USB DAC, this is more or less an active loudspeaker in headphone form. That’s something I’d really like if it’s done well. And I love the Focal house sound. Damn, if it sounds good, I fear I’ll have to buy this.

I regret binders and I regret slim cases. I love digipacks. I can see binders working if you have them in a similar genre. I have considered wooden trays to sit near my CD player

As others have stated once in a binder you kinda never open it. It just saves space and isn’t very ergonomic, more steps to begin the spinning

Young's songs can sound immature to me. makes me think who the hell was he to talk like that at that age. Joni, on the the other hand, was born a poet; just wonderful. CSN: I love their songs, Y wrote lovely melodies, but not so keen on the words.
