Still have my OG BF2 card and I have no plans for upgrading.

Risky move on their part. If you were who they thought you were and your "socket saving rectifier" actually was what they thought it was, them filing a complaint against you could have been construed as toxic workplace or harassment.

More realistically, sounds like they had an axe to grind with you for something else and took their shot. Seen that.

Eventually I do want to buy someone's OG card in the future, just out of curiosity to try.

Its a common cheat code from a whole bunch of video games from the mid-80s on.

Also - fellow Bifrost 2 OG owner here. I haven’t heard the 2/64, but the OG is special enough that I plan to never sell it.

I used to work at Gibson and I think the term "rectum-fire" was mentioned at least once a week around the office.

Konami Code is for f'ing pussies. Contra is a pretty easy game once you figure out the enemy placements and what weapons to use in certain areas.

I used to 1CC shmups. Gradius is for people who can have a perfect run without a death. Gradius however on the NES is tone down on difficulty.

Enough off topic from me here, back to your regular programming.

BattleToads makes Contra and Gradius look easy. Still have PTSD over it.

Never 1CC Parodius Da! or Sexy Parodius. Great games and classic Konami. I used to have the Sexy Parodius PCB a long time ago.

On topic: I know so many like the upgraded card, but I still need my tilted lows since it’s funner. I always thought that was the biggest strength of the OG card IMO. Didn’t give me upgrade fever at all, and this was since 2020.

I've had a 64 Bifrost and the OG card here for about a month or so. Haven't felt like installing the OG card. I like the extra clarity and blackground the 64 has, enjoying that for the moment.

Would you need to flash any firmware to OG once you install the card?

I'm not sure how it works back to OG. Going from OG Bifrost 2 to 64 I had to use the flash card to update firmware. Not sure if I have to downgrade if I went back to OG?

You can swap straight back to OG board after the update.

After taking a long break, I may need to revisit the 64 update to confirm I didn't like it.

I'll probably get heat on this, but one reason why the BF2 64 is in the corner is I felt like it sounded its best after being on for a week and that just doesn't really fit into my lifestyle. While the OG board felt like it was more about 3 days warmup time.

Just chiming in with my initial thoughts on NOS mode from my Bifrost 2 with Jotunheim 2 and ZMF Atticus:

With 44.1 kHz content, I don't care for it. It's too soft sounding... a little too muted. Doesn't seem to add much, and something is definitely taken away. Yes, there's a unique effect on the soundstage, but I think the stock filter does a better job at instrument separation, which ultimately makes for more accurate staging, even if the stage isn't quite as big. I also think that some of the more subtle placement cues are lost with NOS, so the larger stage feels forced and blurrier after coming directly from OS mode.

With 96 kHz content, it sounds really cool. Very 3D, deep and spacious... and thicker. Not always a good thing, but when it's good, it swings like a mf. It's almost like I've placed several big fat tubes somewhere in the signal chain somewhere... in a good way.

I only have two native 192 kHz albums: Hidden History of the Human Race by Blood Incantation, and Rage Against the Machine's self-titled album. Both sound excellent in a way I've never experienced before in NOS mode.

TL;DR similar to tube sound, in a good way for hi-res stuff, but in a bad way for 44.1khz content

Props to Schiit for giving us the option!

I think you are on to something, since I believe to notice the same thing when I upsample to 192kHz in Roon on my Modi Multibit 2 (with NOS) and now that I tried the high res stuff you mentioned it further strengthens the effect.
I remember someone here mentioning that Yggi for example sounds best with 44.1kHz 16-Bit Redbook material and it seems that is what the combo burrito was designed to do.
