    If a headphone has the tendency to sound harsh, just say it out man! My post is a bit ironic though, as it is directed at reviewers, who aren’t even on SBAF.

    @james444 , that distinction is the very reason they get away with it. For reference, I have heard a few IEMs, which are harsher than the HD800 and yet were described as “sparkly and not harsh”.

    No. It’s been bothering me for a while, but what triggered it today was a review of a multi-thousand dollar IEM.

    "Often the result of having too many treble frequencies"

    Call me picky... but I'd say that the same number as in the music would be about right. Right?

    So would you consider it a proper champagne or a decent sauvignon blanc? Champagne pops and can actually hit you: be it the cork or the bubbles. A decent sauvignon blanc can bubble a bit but never feels unpleasant or too bubbly. If you want an explosive pop go for Coke and Mentos...

    @Deep Funk Vouvray FTW.

    Edit - not too sparkly, not too harsh.

    @Thad: You are picky.

    To be fair, this is from a guitar tone glossary. And they seem to be aware of their linguistic shortcomings. ;-)

    "I’ll be honest with you… guitar players are full of it. We use some pretty weird terms to describe sound"

    Thanks @james444: I'll do the same for you one day :)

    Didn't some musician once ask for the music to be more purple? Or something like that.

    It's been said that engineers and audiophiles hear the same thing, but engineers can express it in numbers, whereas we only have the weird language. But I think engineers can be weird too.

    @Thad E Ginathom : don't think - it is fact, engineers ARE weird. If they weren't they wouldn't be engineers.

    Long live weirdness!

    (I'm lousy at spelling. The way I remember how to spell "weird" is "it begins with WE" )

    lol
