Auditioning ZMFs. Once I bought an Auteur, the LCD-3 got put aside and I never looked back. That being said, I own a Code-6 and enjoy it immensely, and also thoroughly enjoyed the RAD-0.
HE6 needed a beefy power amp and still left me wanting. Didn't want to keep bothering switching my amp output for headphones vs speakers. Modded Senns and Fostex, just felt more dynamic, engaging, better imaging, better amp flexibility, and on the Fostexes, better bass too.
I am not kidding when I say the modded TH900 bass is my favorite bass of everything I have ever heard including my own JBL+ dual sub setup in some ways. And that's still true on a mid-fi amp or DAP.
800 and 650 tick all 5 or, at least 4 of these aspects:
Reliability (R), Durability (D), Comfort (C), Timbre (T), Scaling (S). Now let's look at planars I've tried/owned:
Hfm HE1000 v1, v2 - C, T, S
Hfm Arya, Sundara - C, T
Audz LCD 4, 2C - T, S
MrSpkr Aeons, Ethers - R, D, C
I have never heard an LCD4, HE1000, or any other TOTL ortho outside of noisy show/dealer demo situations. When this class of ortho is properly fed, are they capable of the resolution/timbre realism/accuracy/fidelity that the TOTL dynamics? I think I always heard a "plasticky" tinge from mids on up, despite the bass being awesome.
I tried to ditch planars but couldn’t... so now have a great dynamic set up (starlett-HD800s, JAR650) and planar set up!(Mjo2 +Diana v2) Why choose? Variety is the way to go
