I appreciate jazz and other forms of instrumental music more now. Music that is about music. I think that's why people listen to different sorts of electronica and ambient too. They seem to paint a picture of the flow of life for me, selfless form of music. I think there is a lot of talen when people get it right. I guess I align with it more now, like i used to 10 years ago.
Yep, same here. There are many things that can dazzle, but once you know the tricks it loses that spark. I noticed this big time, growing up playing guitar. A lot of musician's music is made to impress. Listen to enough you start to notice something missing.
It's great, once it becomes about emotion for you, TONS of new doors open. And you never really look back. I enjoy playing guitar more, too.
I played a synth on my own on a starter level and was part of some mixing with couple of friends. Nothing too serious, did not get around to making a track myself. Making music is cool, but haven't commited to it . Part of musical enjoyment is exploring new sounds and instruments from electronica to rock. Always loved that anlogue sound of the more rich synths and el. guitars.
Playing an instrument gets more rewarding the more time you put in. But I don't think that means it has to be a hard commitment. I used to think of it that way. But at some point it just became pure fun, and I like it better that way. I'm in it for the same reasons you mentioned. Just another angle to explore from!
" A lot of musician's music is made to impress. Listen to enough you start to notice something missing." I learned this from electronic music. Mixing electronic music with depth can be awesome experience. Add that 20%-50% extra from mainstream and you are getting that amazing unique experince. There is that mainstream vs underground argument, but lets say all tracks are not created equal.
For me, a big part of the appeal with electronic music is in it's ability to continually throw me something that's alien to me. There are no limits to the possible sounds and combinations. So it can be a bit like going to a country that's the complete opposite of yours. Disorienting and mystifying at the same time. I expect that from it at times.
