AFAIK it's the input relays clicking into place. Some find this annoying. I personally couldn't care less.

If it’s clicking excessively on a CD transport when in pause, the CD transport has a cycling interruption in the datastream. There’s no real fix for this...

...except getting another CD transport. It won’t hurt the Bifrost or Gungnir, though—the relays are rated for several million cycles.

My Marantz CD5003 clicks. Denon DCD-1600NE does not. <shrugs>

Many dacs do and it should only be happening when a new track starts that is a different sample rate than the last

It’s winter in Colorado and my apartment wiring sucks. My Bifrost clicks when I touch the bike mounted on the smart trainer that’s plugged into the wall through a switching wall wart.

My Bifrost 2 clicks whenever I pause music streaming from Tidal through a Pi2AES or play again. Not between tracks thankfully

My BF2 often clicks when I power on/off upstream devices (digital EQ), as well as downstream (SW51+).

This depends on how the data transmission is organized. On digital silence the system can interrupt transmission or transmit zeroes. In the latter scenario there shouldn't be any clicks unless transmission parameters change - i.e. you start playing something with a different Fs.

PS Audio PWD DAC also does this...also depends on the source. USB can maintain a continuous connection when direct to computer, but through Pi2AES it disconnects when no audio is playing (through COAX SPIDF connection).
