I always use this argument with people who say “It makes sense to buy different headphones, but all DACs and amps sound the same.” “If you ask my wife and kids, all headphones sound the same, too.”
I literally had a family member say that the HD800 (SDR and rug liner modded) sounded the exact same as my old Klipsch HP-3. Yeah uh... right.
I buy earphones for my wife. Nothing fancy, but she certainly knows/hears the difference between the cheap/nasty ones and the better ones. XX people can hear such things, of course. It is just that they don't tend to become audiophiliacs like XY people do.
