Are you going to review the TA-84? I don't see anyone else on here with one. Looks good. I never thought you'd be an OTL kinda guy being our local planar connoisseur. The output Z is workable?
@Sqveak yeah @rhythmdevils mentioned he was really enjoying it in another thread. I’ll let him elaborate, though - would be nice to have another affordable OTL to choose from if it’s legit.
I love it with my RD-S12 which is ok with OTL for whatever reason likely vey low power demands. It sings with the Zana Deux Super as well. And I like my RD-X on the TA-84 better than the Mjolner 3 which has very bad synergy with Audeze's. But not all Audeze's work on the TA-84 the LCD-5 distorts.
I'd like to do a review of the TA-84 for everyone here and I think having an HD650- variant would help everyone more than just my custom orthos. Like I said I don’t like the HD650 on almost anything but I can tell better/worse in iots of detail for a review
Drop is currently sold out of the TA-84 but they put years of work into this amp I had the prototype here a full year ago. So they're not going to stop making it or selling it anytime soon.
@purr1n did you hear the prototype a year ago (amber LED and tube cage) or the production unit recently (red LED, no tube cage)? They sound really different, I'm using very different sounding tubes in each to get a similar sound but they still sound different, The production unit can handle a wider variety of headphones also.
