Old Walkman where to me Michael Jackson sounded like a girl

Cassette walkman which had the dolby button. It got rid of tape hiss nicely but at too much expense of treble air and openness. It made the sound too closed in and airless. I'm still fussy about this today.

Did not like the cassette tape jump to Dolby C. B was Ok, but I agree with @Tchoupitoulas , it did squash the raw energy.

Yeah, Dolby C was too much (an overdone version of B). S, though, I thought struck a good balance.

One night in the mid-90's, my father bought $7000 worth of home theater gear that included tower speakers. Hearing those was my first introduction.

I remember Frank Cooter brought a reel to reel tape rig to a Bay Area meet in like 2011 and that's when I fell in love with analog for hi-fi. If I was rich, I'd go down the rabbit hole of reel to reel.

Bigger and longer is always better on R2R, just like you know what.

Tarantino said for cinephiles DVD's are like marijuana but when you start collecting film prints that's heroin and I think R2R is that for audiophiles. When you're paying $500+ per recording you're shooting smack.

I think that my first experience of real stereo was when I left home and spent a lot of time with a bunch of hippies, a house that I later moved into for a couple of years.

That was great. But one of my friends had a dad who used his living room as a pro recording studio. His Quad-plus-Tannoy system was amazing.
