Since Airpods are taking up so much conversation, I'll throw my thoughts in.

Have had 2 sets of them - a regular and a pro version. The batteries on both died and became non-chargeable in less than a year. BS award.

I’m steeped in the Apple ecosystem. The AirPods Pro just work well for me. That said, I suspect the above is very true for non-Apple folks.

AirPods Pro do have good tonal signature and are actually good. However, we can let CNET give them an award.

The 7Hz timeless iem is my nomination. Great sound and value according to me.

11 years after its release, it's still a relatively solid and inexpensive option for high impedance phones. How many other similar products have been enjoyed by our community for so long?

From my own experience on train (3 trains during a 7h trip + round trip) and airplane (4+5) the Sonys are better but I seem as slightly different in the way they do their noise cancelling. All in all they are both the best that I have had or tried so I would put them at almost the same level but the Sonys are better in my opinion.
I presume this has much to do with the tips (which ofc makes passive also better) and I can imagine measuring these (Sony's) will give different results, if not done properly.
My girl doesn't care as much about either of them while traveling but prefers the Apples signature. She ends up not preferring any of them to the HPs we have. Both are very good but both inferior to their non-small-form counterparts.

Suggestion: many airports have both so I can imagine u can try? I don't know now with Corona and such.

Perhaps I don’t have enough experience with the various head/earphones with a transparency mode (Sony h.ear on 2, jabra active elite 75t, Logitech zone wireless), but the AirPod Pros are the only ones that sound very natural to the point where I occasionally forget I have them in (as @pure5152 mentioned). This coupled with the excellent ANC make them perfect for everyday use for iPhone users. They’re also very comfortable for me since they sit so shallow in my ears; though, it’s probably a little too shallow since they do fall out occasionally, and they most definitely wouldn’t stay in during a workout. But I do agree with @purr1n that they belong in the realm of cnet accolades.

This is actually a surprise to me that it hasn't gotten one already! Stock built by someone else, it's good. Kitted out, it's great. As a gateway to learning and modifications, it's phenomenal. For a hobby with all sorts of FOTM and when Schiit does a great job of lifecycle management, 11 years is exemplary of L and V is *still* strong in its category.

Dunu Zen Pro for E, V. Sounds excellent from almost anything, good tonal balance, excellent technicalities, and still cheaper than an andromeda.

I took a 3 years warantee. there's many places that will ofer for 100$ 3 years no question asked replacements. For sure they cannot last more then 3 years without breaking. mine are near a year old and no probleme at all so far. even the battery is plenty still today and ive been using them quite heavily

    my 2 cents

If the battery died within a year then you get a free replacement so it’s hard to see being that put out about it aside from the annoyance of having to go to an Apple store or send them in.

I doubt Apple would accept a golden schlong if it was given to them though (unless maybe we told them it was a golden female schlong which they might think was super inclusive) so probably best to keep the award to smaller companies that might appreciate it.

For me, AirPods Pro are seriously sub par sonically; e.g. compared to Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 (not to mention a ton of $50+ wired IEMs). AirPods Pro are convenient for conference calls etc. (and beaten by a mile for that e.g. by Aftershokz Opencomm) ... would never include them if the awards relate to the quality of music listening?

My poor impression may be related to their fit and limited tuning options - perhaps just not a good fit for my ear, even though I know a few others who are similarly not amazed. Air Pods Pro to me sound worse than any of the other 30+ headphones or IEMs at my disposal.

This is from somebody who for almost a decade could only afford to buy the cheapest walkman clone, using the included $2 headset, on the cheapest bootleg cassette tapes. I am grateful having escaped that sound. AirPods Pro do not bring back fond memories.

For context how I would rate them against other well known contenders: AirPods Pro: C-, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2: C, AirPods Pro Max: C+, Tia Fourte Noir: B+, EmpireEars Odin: A-

Use the 'Respectively Disagree' button. (Which should probably be "Respectfully" Disagree)

There will be a vote held at some point for the nominees that are credible. No need to respond yet, besides a reason.

Some YT videos that I randomly watched saying that they prefer the funner sound of the AirPods 3 over the Pros. What do I know....I don't own any AirPods.

Adding Susvara to the nomination: Only "survivor" for me in the ca. 2017 A-list top gun club, after Utopia fell behind to B-tier with new entries surpassing its sound. One of the few good generalist headphones, unlike Abyss 1266 or Raal SR-1a. Susvara is not a fluke but product of a solid evolution - starting with HE-6. For me the current benchmark phone that I will compare all comers against.

New street price is competitive with the current crop (please just ignore the MSRP). Good used deals to be had due to FOTM crowd chasing LCD-5 etc.

Brown starfish: Fedex & UPS, for responding to getting much more business and making much more money during the pandemic by providing much worse service and putting up prices.
