It's a tricky area. I used to do a lot of business around that area with my prior job. There are few decent independent places in the financial district about a quarter mile up past 7th street if you wanted to get away from the overpriced chains near the hotels. Chinatown is probably too far away. That's where Philippe The Original (French Dip) resides. This is an El Lay institution. I realized I should have posted some of these tips for out of town travelers or folks not familiar with the area. To the east of LA Live is Skid Row. It's been slowly and notably expanding the past few years. The boundaries aren't very distinct. I would not be surprised if there were a dude or two shooting up in the bathroom of JW Marriott. I'll drive through these streets every now and then to show my kids how good they have it.
