This should be a bannable offense or at least deserving of a “douchebag” tag

Just to provide some brief history that may clear some of this up: I sold my SW51+ to @Ice-man because I had 2 units and one was about to be repaired. Ice-man thinks it might be a bad unit, which could be why they are selling on head-fi. I would encourage them, however, to post it for sale on here or and disclose that it didn't sound as great as they expected, or even take a picture of the inside of the amp to troubleshoot with Zampotech. In fact, I encouraged them to do the latter but they seemed to want to sell, which is perfectly understandable and all.

One additional note: I had a suspicion it may have been Ice-man who posted the thread on Head-fi, and asked them about whether they had posted it, but they never got back to me, so I decided to drop it.

If anyone has questions for me (the seller) about the amp and the process of sale, please don't hesitate to reach out. Hoping to be as transparent as possible to avoid too much drama.

@dematted Thanks for providing some context to the product and the sale path.
of course, nothing on the HF post says anything about "might be a bad unit" either.

I really wasn't planning to say a thing about this amp because...I really don't like the amp, at all. And In fact, it's one of the biggest disappointments that I've had in the hobby. I'm in a financial situation where I needed to downgrade and recently sold an expensive amp to get a great bang for the buck/less expensive amp with the sw51.

But after like 20 minutes listening to it, I knew the amp was not for me. And quite honestly, I wouldn't want to pass this amp on to any friend here given the way that it sounds (just being honest). Much better to pass this to someone on HF than here. Who knows, maybe I'm missing something with this amp and someone will appreciate it, but certainly not me.

But I guess that it's really my call to keep it, sell it or whatever. Not really sure what business it is of yours or why you'd even care. I'm sure that you have better things to do. But it's all it's good. I'm just trying to mind my own business and get a budget rig that I can enjoy for the next 2 or 3 years until I can afford something better.

sounds like theres something wrong with the amp and it should be looked at before passing it on to someone unknowing for $375 (a lot of scratch, how much are these new again?)

its possible for an amp to be defective even if is passing signal. even an incomplete wire connection can act as an antenna for noise and paralyze the entire sound of the amplifier.

are HeadFi members considered subhuman such that you would sell them a defective amplifier without a stain on your conscious?

I'm confused, isn't the logical thing to do here is for Ice-man to return the amp back to you? I mean I get that we like to make fun of headfi, but selling a possibly broken amp and advertising as a fully functional amp is unethical and messed up.

Now I feel like I dodged a bullet here because I actually almost purchased Ice-man's SW51 using Paypal Friends & Family yesterday.

I am perfectly happy to accept the amp back and provide a full refund so long as it is confirmed to be broken by Zampotech. I was not aware that it was broken or non-functional at all when I sold it, though. But if Zampotech confirms that it needs repair I will happily refund, pay for repairs, and sell it to a SBAF member.

If I had any cause to think the amp was defective I would have asked to return it. Plain and simple I just didn't like the sound it. "Sub human HF." Wow. I'm not even going to respond sir.

@Ice-man Did you say it might be a bad unit? Wouldve been easy enough to ask for help before selling. “Financial situation”, were you avoiding repair costs or a loss? @dematted said he would have refunded.

Or at the very least just get a second pair of ears on it to confirm broken-vs-just-don't-sound-agreeable on the amp in question.

I think we should move this drama to its own thread. It doesn't belong in here.

Edit: Thanks mods for moving this to the only place that makes sense.

im just following your logic, you said the amp sounds so bad you wouldn't want to sell it to someone here.
however a high percentage of the owners here love the amp and are nominating it for awards and such?

so there's something of a disconnect, either the amp is really not your taste and you shouldn't have qualms selling it here, or there's something not right with the amp in which case you shouldn't sell it for more than the new price here or anywhere without having it checked out first.

i'm doubly confused as you seem to have liked every FOTM amp you got your hands on in the past 3 years, so it seems strange this one suddenly would be 'the biggest disappointment'

Where is the amp getting sent for repair and is it already on it's way there? Possibly to "Surf City USA" ?

No idea how you knew that, but yes, the one being sent for repair is going to Huntington Beach California! Zampotech has been exceedingly helpful through all of this, and is, all you all know, a stand-up guy.

    1. thx to whomever put this topic in place, i need to practice my move-posts-to-new-thread-mod skills.

    2. "what business it is of mine", none directly. yet when you are constantly gear cycling to the benefit of YOU solely, without any regard for optics or helping SBAF member interest it's clearly a behavioral pattern.
you know SW51+ amp is well regarded here on SBAF, hence the FOTM mouth drooling over it 8 days ago.
asking US for help to find a SW51+ ASAP.
not willing to put in the skin and wait from the vendor himself, but find a short cut in line based your immediate curiosity and potential gratification.
Well guess what- the pompous reasoning "it's not good enough for me, it's not good enough for SBAF members" is pure BS.
you didn't reach back to original seller who did YOU a favor. Nor did you show any interest if an SBAF member would benefit from a quick resale, as you did.
SBAF members help you (repeatedly), no help toward others offered in return. that's why HF is perfect for the myopic audio gear hunters such as yourself.

    3. we traded PMs about this very issue- bad optics in FS postings on HF and SBAF in Sep 2019. claim then was "my buying and selling days are basically done." and the need to care for a family member having issues. yet the more things change, the more your behavior is the same.

    4. would you care to reveal if you benefitted from other SBAF members giving you "a deal" on good (tube?) amps in the past? only then later deciding (due to whatever reason) selling it elsewhere for even a slight profit ?
think carefully before typing a denial.

    5. if recouping $375 is some immediate financial hardship, that is either a real gap in the responsibility to budget for the safety of self, or too short sighted thus approaching the arena of dum dum.

decreasing a pre-occupation (importance) for the perfect-rig of audio gear in the overall cycle of life may help.

since 2020 sucked for us all, i am hopeful that a refocus on real life priorities and perspective for helping a community of others is a heightened lesson all of us carry forward into 2021 and beyond.
    peace out.

This is some good shit. Including using “sir” in an attempt to take the high road. Keep it comin, can’t buy entertainment this good.

Also is JK47 a sampotech repair man now and does he plow the wives of unhappy Sbaf wives when their husbands get all sour about an amp they don’t like?

sw51 rules. eat it folded losers. If you like the sound of a schiit Jotunheim Val-whatever amp and think sw51 sounds bad then it’s either broken or gotta get the old ears checked. Brencho out.

I kid of course happy holidays porkers.
