Yah. Reminds me of the 'Nam protests. I hope Kent State doesn't repeat.

I try not to comment often in threads like this because I like it here but I don’t like bullies much. I hesitate to call them terrorist for supporting a group that most of them probably know nothing about, but at the same time the Hitler Youth weren’t viewed as terrorists either until it was too late. Maybe more people should have spoken up then too.

I’ll say this as a Jew: The last few years is really making some of my people reconsider who they are voting for in the future. May not matter much in NY or in CA, but one reason why FL is FL is all of my people who left places like CA and NY for more safer lands in GOP run states. Do most agree with the GOP on all policy? No, but when their old political home is run by guys who supports people who don’t have a problem wiping Jews off the face of the map, they will jump ship.

I know some Jews who don’t longer vote straight ticket Democrat because of this mess. At least in my backyard, I know some who more or less vote GOP full time now due to these issues.

@YMO youve always presented yourself as a clown, but saying that student protestors are as bad as Hamas proves you in fact really are one.

@Bowmoreman Your not so thinly veiled racist rants and your constant references to (((globalists))) isn’t as subtle as you think it is. You are a genuine piece of shit and it is disgusting you’re still around.

@crenca You look oh so cool when you make jokes about signs saying “carpet bomb Gaza” when over 30,000 people have in fact been carpet bombed. But since they’re mostly brown and Muslim it’s fair game, right?

And a special shout out to @Claritas for never failing to get on his knees and deep throat America’s big fascist military boner while also running to the mods anytime anyone says anything even slightly negative in response. You’re a pathetic, cowardly piece of shit.

We always talk about how SBAF is like a local bar. Well when you let Nazis drink at your bar, you know what that makes you? A f'ing Nazi bar. See you all in hell.

Mods, please ban me permanently. I’m not coming back.

I was not around then but I don't believe that is true. @Merrick throwing a hissy fit is not "politics", and it does not ruin anything except his own stability of mind and heart. Indeed it is the opposite of "politics", it is just pushing and shoving, ranting and raving, and is meaningless to anyone who was not born yesterday...

For the record, I am not “throwing a hissy fit.” This is how things get out of hand as they already are. It seems everyone has their fists up ready to put up a fight. Usually I avoid this thread for this very reason, but lately it’s been off the rails. Some ranting, but then things get personal. People have very strong feelings and much respect and filters have gone out the window. I just hate to see it some to this - being at each other’s throats and all.

I’ll say out and keep trying to find my inner Dude. Peace.

Oops, I meant @Merrick of course - my apologies for the typing your name instead!

What you say is true (strong passions, etc.) but it always has been thus. Politics, at least in the classically liberal spirit that was (still largely is) the foundation of our culture was the artful and mature rejection of "the extremes", or at least its bracketing off and out of the center of "reason" . It takes a "tough skin" however, a tolerance of those who think/believe/speak differently. Capitulating to the ranters and ravers is the disintegration of politics, not its protection. We need more (genuine) politics, not less...

Certainly, even those who openly support Hamas, and cheered on Oct 7 murders, are not as harmful as Hamas. Yet.
But it would be stupid to give them any window of opportunity, any whatsoever.

I think the "they're terrorists" or "they're the exact same as Hamas" rhetoric is extreme, and concerning in the sense that it feels like the pretense to justify deadly action. I find it disgusting that anyone would call for Israel to be massacred and wiped out, but also part of living in a society with such permissive free speech is that people are allowed to say disgusting things if it's not directly tied to violent action. Obviously in non-public spaces you can prohibit/expel people over what they say, but I think some care still needs to be taken about when force is used.

Also, I'm okay with some civil disobedience and minor law-breaking when it comes to protests personally (and not just ones I agree with), but I think the line has definitely been crossed on some campuses. Peacefully occupying a space you're not supposed to be in? Generally, that's morally okay in my book. Heavy property damage and violence? Nah, too far. Some of the protests have clearly crossed the line (notably, sometimes it's the counter-protestors or police crossing those lines). I don't think most campus protests across the country have crossed that line.

In terms of the ideological positions of the pro-Palestine protestors, I think there's likely a small minority of protestors who are truly in the "Hamas was right to attack, destroy Israel" take, with the larger protest movement mostly supporting innocent Palestinians (not Hamas) against what they feel is long-running oppression and a disproportionate response to Oct 7 by Israel.

I think there's an obvious problem of rising antisemitism, but it's not cut-and-dry that being on the pro-Palestine side in the protests is indicative of that. There are Jewish protestors on both sides of the protest.

I have no culture, no religion, and no horse in the race. So for me, it's a simple math problem. And right now, each Israeli life is worth somewhere between 10 to 100 Palestinian lives.

That's some pretty fucked up math.

Yes the world got to this point. One we figured out that words are violence, we know how it happened, every confrontation of different opinions or even strong feelings about any subject turns into a call to a civil, kinetic, war. The world is neetly devided into two buckets, angels and fascist. What is funny is that we can jump effortlessly from one bucket to another, depending who we are talking to.

Wow, never been called a racist before. Dated and almost married both a Mexican girl, and a black girl. Have worked for, and had work for me, every conceivable minority (including 3 Trans - first in starting in1984!) over the last 45 years. My first-born married a 1/2 Mexican girl. I support two (as @Merrick would deign to call them) separate “brown boys” in Guatemala and Costa Rica. These are life experiences and facts.

I call out racism everywhere I see it, every chance I get. It isn’t a left/right thing, it’s an “evil” thing. I’ve actually been IN a “race riot” and still have the physical scars (had to get stitches.. the 1967 Detroit riots). I fear we’re heading the same place.

@purr1n had made THIS thread the one place where things could be discussed, as long as one was “exemplary” (sharing real stories and examples). I did that for my personal experiences (e.g. with Illegal Immigration many months back). And I got my “disinformation” tags despite it being real-world experience. Just how DID my sharing my first hand experience of an employee and her husband being murdered by an illegal alien (fact in reality) make me as @Merrick tagged me back then with his dislike and misinformation tag “a genuine racist disgusting piece of shit”? I’ll note for the record, I didn’t respond then and I won’t stoop now. I have thicker skin and there’s no POINT.

It is unfortunate there are a few people who cannot, and will not leave behind their extreme views (of whatever “side”) enough to actually pay attention and listen - and acknowledge they may be wrong, misinformed, or insufficiently informed. In my life experience, those yelling the loudest and most nastily simultaneously know the least wrt: facts, and are the least willing to LISTEN. And that’s true for any/all “sides” Hence, I presume Marv’s requirement to make it experiential, by example, not just parroting the (corrupt) media monkeys/positions…

I fear for our society. Too many of our youth have not been taught critical thinking, to listen, or to respect others. The bill is coming due.

Name-calling temper tantrums lacking any basis in reality are sad, really. We should not let them derail or destroy SBAF.

In all seriousness now, I will also say I have no horse in this race aside from not wanting this to further escalate global instability, further devalue money and cause other financial chaos, further harm more people (Americans, Israelis or Palestinians, or whoever else will inevitably get dragged into this due to proxy), or whatever further chaos.

TBH I'm a bit surprised more people in the US and globally don't seem to openly feel this way it comes to this all. I'm also sure I'm going to get hate for this comment followed by some blame game and/or name calling, which I will simply allow to happen at the moment because I have a dinner to make.
