You should take the Cavalli Mini Crimson off the list. You'll know why in a few days.

@DigMe That was on the Eddie Current site a while back. Showing out of stock now, so I guess it's gone forever.

If you are referring to the Black Widow, that is correct. Spoke to Craig at the last Pasadena meet. He doesn't plan on making any more. Whatever is still available, if any, from a dealer are the last. Eddie Current has none in stock.

    Hi

Questyle make the well regarded golden stack based on the 800i dac/head amp, but is a bit over budget. However their 600i is $1299 and they rate it highly - dual balanced amps for headphones as well as single ended. Good reviews on the 600i - I know the brand is not that well known in USA but it is sold there. It is worth adding to the try list.

I have heard the 600i and did not rate it highly, something off about that one, particularly when used as a DAC only, but even as a reasonable priced combo it did not impress me that much. If you want an AKM DAC and a competent headphone amp then I suspect you would be better served by something from Schiit.

Not a lot of DAC talk on here...

And several other reasons as well. As a Pyrate of years back, may I respectfully ask for everyone to take a chill pill or something. We have a thread called Game of Thrones. The forum isn't intended to emulate the television show. If you are felling grumpy, grouchy, pissed off at whatever (or don't like the thread topic), wait until your not before posting. I've been guilty, so not pointing fingers. Let's remember the F in SBAF doesn't mean F-you.

I think hitman was getting at the general hollowness of the thread since it's not really geared towards any particular headphone or topology and doesn't fill any gaps in knowledge beyond those which google searches can provide. But the existence of this thread makes me think that a more comprehensive cataloging and mini review of amps at different price tiers would be useful. There are threads dedicated to different amps of course but maybe something like what @Marvey and others has done in the past but updated and separated by price and topology would be useful (with links to dedicated threads). This isn't a bash on @Luckbad since I know he intends for the thread to flesh out over time. But there are a lot of not great amps in this list (maybe for the sake of completeness) and conflates price to performance which isn't always great in the headphone world.

No criticism of @HitmanFluffy intended. Have the utmost respect. Just commenting on things in general as of late. Please continue the thread.

Your post is worthless. Are you a shill - as this is your first post? As far as "well regarded"? Who the f**k are those people? "They rate it highly.." Seriously? Scroo you. "Good reviews..." Again, scroo that. We want to know what YOU think, and what YOU might have compared it to, using WHAT gear. What "people" think is useless here as far as the members are concerned.

    Think of this like this:

J (my wife): "Oh, 'people' say that restaurant is good"
M: "By 'people', do you mean your friend Cici*?"

I've been burned way too many times by this "people say it's good" routine.

*Cici is a suburban soccer mom who only eats at American chain restaurants and has never ventured into any of the hole in the wall places in the Valley, particularly the areas where there might be more brown people.

A big problem is that some of those amps are shit, and members are afraid to say they are shit. I can't be the one to call stuff out as shit all the time. This place is becoming like HF or typical audiophile circles, where people are too afraid to crap on the latest POS they heard. OK, calling stuff a POS is not fair, but we don't even get a "not very good" anymore. What the hell happened? How have we become the "genteel audiophile old farts mutual adulation society"?

Agreed. Lots of unimpressive amps and gear out there in the world. It's a confusing space unless we call spades spades.

There are more and more people here. If multiple people say a product is good, one wouldn't dare criticize it. Or people are afraid to be wrong. If everyone says they like everything, one can never be different from the rest when he or she says the product is good.

That said, I don't think the magni 2 multibit is good.

If you like something, tell us why. It's also helpful to let people know what you have compared it to, and if it was a direct comparison, or from memory.

You may get jumped on if you don't agree with the majority, but if you back up your opinion with reason, it will go a long way in earning respect. People may even start to learn what your sound preferences are, and that can make you opinion valuable if they can understand where you are coming from.

Predicting this post from you 150 years ago, James Russell Lowell remarked "Blessed are they who have nothing to say and who cannot be persuaded to say it."
I have a sign on my computer monitor that says "I have no opinion on that". I ignore it regularly (as I am doing now). I have been told that I am like the comedian Ron White who said... "I found out that I have the right to remain silent, but not the ability." Looks like you may be similarly afflicted.

This is probably my last post because I am probably going to get (non self-imposed) banned.
