My 1969 Chevrolet Nova that was purchased in 1993 for my Senior year of high school with only 33,000 miles. For you car guys: 307 cu in V-8, 2-Barrel carb, Powerglide two-speed auto transmission, A/C (that worked for a year, then died, then worked again for 6 more months, then died again).

It came silver with horrible rough as sandpaper paint that was stripped off and the cheapest red paint job from the local repair shop - that did not even have a clear coat. The only real upgrade I made on this car was Corvette Rally wheels. Unfortunately I had to go off to college and needed a more reliable car, so 2-door Honda Accord was made just a few years later. I did get about a good 3 years in it and I wished I would have had a place to keep it. It was sold to someone who then wrecked it into a ditch about a year later and off to the junkyard it went.

Triangle side windows, manual turn the crank door windows, on the floor bright switch, and no stop all drum no-power brakes, I was lucky to have power steering at least. The power steering made donuts in the parking lot possible, especially when it just rained. And I think I estimated about 10mpg. You had to flip the license plate down in the back to get to the gas tank.

The car I have now is just an AWD RAV4. It has one of the best AWD systems (next to Subaru, who is partially owned by Toyota) as snow is no problem at all and comes in handy for my wife who is an RN and does not have the option of calling out during snow.

    RAV4.jpg

Now she has an AWD Prius and can drive herself to work in the snow, lol.

285/35ZR19 in the front, 335/25R20 in the rear in case you're wondering.

Yes, I named my car "the Compensator" for a reason.

Jokes aside, I personally don't care if the opinion is that I'm trying to flex on people. It's the ride I most enjoy driving and I'm a proud/happy owner. It ain't no garage queen; I buy my cars because I want to thrash them on the canyons and the track.

In the 80s I was a fanboy for Porsche and would bug dealerships, test driving 944s. I had a thing for pop up headlights. I gave up on the idea when my sons were born. But my brother bought an ‘82 SC, and then an ‘86 Carrera, both with 140k plus miles on them. He passed away in 2010, and I had the cars shipped to Maine. I sold the 82 before the air cooled market run up, but drove the 86 for a decade.

About 10 years ago I was in an accident in a Honda CRV, where the airbags were remarkable in saving us from injury. After that, the 86 with its aftermarket Momo wheel, seemed less ideal. The 04 has airbags, so my wife will happily ride with me now. I don’t do track days.

I would love a GR Yaris with 4wd and 268 hp, but they aren’t bringing that to the US.

Back in the late 1970's I was working up in Kansas and I had a typical farm truck of the day; Chevy with 400ci small block, full time 4x4. Could pass anything on the road except for a gas station. When it was in low lock in the mud I could manage 3 miles per gallon :). It had three gas tanks; one on either side and one back where the spare tire was under the bed (It was mounted on the front bumper).

My FJ has a backup camera which I"m grateful for. The rear window is small and partially blocked by the spare tire (265R75 16).

You must be familiar with Maine’s system for car registration. It’s now flattened at about $400 per year. The Fit is down to about $90 per year and won’t go lower, either. A tank of 93 octane is about $50, and a set of tires is over a grand. It is what it is.

And it is sunny today after yesterday’s rain. I must flash a BIOS this morning, and then I might head out. Mountains to the north and west, coast to the south and east. Or a rivers and bridges tour of the Kennebec or the Androscoggin.

Be glad you're in the good ole USA. Yearly tax on my Vanquish is €1809 (that's a bit over $2,100). (It will drop to the "vintage car" rate of €56 once it's 30 years old.)

Oh yes I am. I work with a ton of Mainers and I hear the horror stories of paying tag/inspection/tax and going by MSRP for taxes, not paid value. System needs a redo if you ask me because I don't get how people are willing to pay tax on something like a $70k+ car at times, lol.

In FL we don't have excise tax or veh inspection on cars, you just pay an one time sales tax on a new/used car purchase (there are exceptions of course on this, including if you are moving to FL and had car for awhile) and pay the cheap tag renewal. If you are obtaining new registration, crap is like $200+ on top of all the fees. Upfront host of being hit with fees but if you keep the same tag for a long time, you will come out ahead.

I wanna crash @ChaChaRealSmooth Vette shirtless with bath salts Florida Man style.

While it's not the most OSHA friendly photo out there, here is a photo of her last night during my pizza party.

Being a serial BMW owner, have you ever considered an Alpina @shaizada ?

That M8 is a sweet ride but more than a bit out of my price range. I did pick up this new M240i back in the spring. It is my 4th BMW now and likely won't be my last, I've been really happy with all of them. They are really good at building cars that are both fun to drive and practical.

That is a great question actually. Never expect anything less from around these parts of the web :)

I did consider the Alpina versions in the past. I appreciate the "spin" they put on the cars. The internal materials and the more luxurious tilt....but what I learnt was....I am too much of a purist. So is the M division at BMW and it just sits well with me.

What I really wanted is a 911 Carrera 4S. I still need usable back seats for my kids, so had to "compromise" with this solution. My first Porsche will never be a 4 door....has to be the 911. So I will wait a few more years. Believe me, I am not complaining...this M8 Competition Gran Coupe is a beast.

Is that stainless? Looks heavy enough to pop the transmission out of 2nd/4th/6th gear when you hammer the brakes.

It is stainless, and it adds a nice heft. Good for getting the initial shift from 1st to 2nd going on cold cold days. Thankfully not heavy enough to engage an "auto downshift" when braking.

I also have a titanium knob from them which is much lighter
