MOD EDIT, SEE HERE FOR NON SPECULATIVE THREAD:
    https://www.superbestaudiofriends.o...ew-discussion-impressions-measurements.13335/

    -----OG POST BEGINS HERE-----

If you already know, please don't contribute. I've hid this thread for a reason. I wish to speak, but not be heard.

They say they are slaughtering a sacred cow, which the only one I can think of is that analog signals should stay in the analog domain.

Much of Schiit's intellectual prowess is in the digital field (not to short Jason) and it's been underappreciated as the swap from AKM to ESS was a bear, but not a celebration.

Jason is kind of making a real big deal outta this. It doesn't feel like he's discussing his own work.

So some kind of device that takes an analog signal into the digital domain in a way that will upset analog purists.

Doesn't sound like a big deal? Well we're dealing with Jason trying to hype his partner's product. Maybe he's having a little extra fun with it. I won't hold it against him.

I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to upset purists!

Digital signal processors already exist, even for signals that start as analog. The sacred cow must be whatever the processing is for, not just that it may convert an analog signal to digital.

You are probably thinking way way way too hard about it.

A long time ago, surround sound was encoded in analog. Really, the surround stuff wasn't any different from quadraphonic records. ' memba Santana Quadraphonic? I had a Dolby 5.1 processor what was fully analog back in the day. TBH, I don't think there is much difference from that and today's megabuck digital processors, well not at least if you are still on 5.1 surround. 7.1.2 or more may be another story.

The only difference today is betterer with discrete digital channels and Atmos. Even then the 128 speakers up the top of the theatre is matrixed.

As for difference, it comes down to the mixing. No sound guy has THAT much time these days to take advantage of Atmos. When Atmos first came out, I went to El Capitan to experience it. Only used fully for two sequences, not even a full scene.

I've been surprised at how many albums have appeared on Apple Music remixed to Atmos. Steven Wilson even remixed Grateful Dead's American Beauty for streaming without a physical release in sight. The audio remixes are being done by the audio engineers, not the movie mixers.

Dark Side of the Moon was just released in Atmos, which is the fourth surround mix of that album? Quadrophonic, the 5.1 SACD mix, and the 5.1 Immersion box set remix, now this Atmos mix.

That's the "Gadget". Jason has said it's not Syn.

I'm wondering if it's some sort of spacial restoration.

Then it sounds like some kind of speaker type emulation or specialized crossfeed.

Could it be Singularity (Syn)– their FPGA ΔΣ Dac with MegaComboBurrito? Got it done fast if so, these pics are from 5 months ago.

That looks like way more than the ~$400 price of the Syn.

That's interesting! I was thinking a play off "Sin" to go with the "Heretic" and (Nitsch x Schiit) "Piety".

    Is it Schiit’s M-scaler?
The sin would be to open their mega combo burrito filter to other DACs?

When I started reading this thread a Schiit Sonic Holography or SRS type product came to mind.

I would want to buy a plain old Schiit A/D converter for ripping my vinyl that doesn't exist in digital format, but it sounds like Syn is more ambitious.
