We tried different USB and Coax cables, didn't help

Only on 24/192 files? Weird. I guess I don't have any 192 kHz files to try on my Eitr. I do have an old Mac laying around but I haven't used it for music playback. Hope somebody else can chime in on your issue.

Also, can your friend run a USB cable straight from his Mac to his DAC (skipping the Eitr)? This is assuming that the DAC has a USB input.

What wasn't mentioned was the version of Mac OS X that your friend has installed. Does anyone know if there is a minimum version of OS X that is required to work with the Schiit Eitr?

Edit: Sorry - I posted after the responses with @Cooper32 were already added. I didn't see that it was only affecting 24/192 files. Is there a compatibility issue between this version of OS X and Eitr? Also - what is the max resolution that the DAC can reach (e.g. is it able to play 24/192 files on its own)?

Would love more info, was your test with the Windows PC vs. the Mac apples to apples (same cables, same DAC)? Basically can we isolate whether the issue is on the coax or the SPDIF side.

yes. If there's a choice between a long USB cable or a long coax cable, always go with the coax. Or AES if it's an option.

I'll try this soon. I don't have it setup now because I've been waiting for my 230v wall wart. In the meantime I have a 230v -> 120v converter I can use

Windows to IOS tests are not apples to apples (we are remote from each other, this was my EITR before I sent it to him).

I was using Windows 10 -> EITR -> Metrum Amethyst, he is feeding a REGA DACr (which is capable of 24/192, and works if fed from a Musical Fidelity V-Link 192 USB/SPDIF converter). The fact that it works with the Musical Fidelity, and doesn't via the EITR, leads us to believe it is an EITR problem and not a DAC or cable problem.

The MAC he has is less than 2 wks old (christmas), so I have to assume it is running the latest version of MAC OS. He also tried it on an older MAC, didn't work there either.

if it's that new it could be an issue with the M1 chipset. I know you can't run external GPUs anymore.

I have several Eitrs I use with OSX and haven’t run into any issues with 24/192 using Audirvana. Has he tried another software player?

So why Eitr is discontinued? Unison is better? I'm using Modius w/ Unison. Will it benefit from Eitr at all?

It was Schiit-canned due to low sales according to Jason. And yes Unison is better than Eitr IMO, no need for it on Modius. And Pi2AES out to coax SPDIF trounces it.

Probably DAC dependent. If I recall correctly, @GoldenOne fed a Modius with a clean spdif and usb, and found USB was much better. The review is on YouTube.

That reminds me, I have an Eitr I need to list for sale soon...just came across it the other day in one of my "old audio gear" storage boxes (which is separate from the "old audio cables" storage box). That, and a Schiit Loki DSD-only DAC from back in the day (which actually was remarkably good-sounding).

Looking for experiences with upgrading the power supply of the Eitir? Improvements or not and what was used. Did not see any discussion of products tried in the thread
    best,

    Home Page:
Etir uses a 6V AC power supply. So basically it already has a LPS and not an SMPS.

also need to keep in mind that it’s digital-to-digital conversion so clean power isn’t as crucial
