It would be interesting to start a thread or chart of notoriously harsh/laidback headphones that can be revived by Loki.

I personally think it's genius in a "cheapskate/starving student kinda way" where you can keep headphones that are almost there sound-wise or u want to accentuate your current setup to your sound preference. If you spent all your $$ on HD800 and you realize that you're a closet basshead after the fact (true story!), the Loki should help. Don't care for software eq so that also. At work (I work in a noisy food factory) I should also be able to drown out the robot making ketchup making some adjustments.

I'm not surprised, there's a long running nearly 50 page thread on the Steve Hoffman forum titled "Life without tone controls ... it sucks!"

Audiophiles really miss the EQ they had on their starter systems.

It’s going to get confusing around here unless someone comes up with a good shorthand notation for posting/sharing Loki knob settings.

    Trying with emoji:

(Had to do a screenshot. Emoji not supported apparently. )

Might as well just use cock notation.

    edit: CLOCK notation
edit2: screw it, the original typo is funnier

Loki and HD 800? Any help here?

Edit: What are thoughts on Loki helping bring the sub-bass/lower bass up a bit on the HD800?

Could this theoretically be used with a Fulla 2? Could you go fixed line-out to Loki, then from Loki to font analog-in on Fulla 2? Does the line-out keep feeding from the DAC section even when there is analog input detected on the front, or does it feed the front line-in to the fixed line-out? Would this cause some sort of time paradox and create a worm hole, sucking my workplace into the unknown?

Talk about having multiple layers of Schiit now.

So it seems with one set of stereo RCA ins and outs, the Loki is designed to filter only one source in the chain. My current setup pic is below, I'm guessing it would best be dropped in between phono and preamp?

I can still use PC applications to EQ my DAC signal, or use an RCA input splitter adapter to run both the DAC and turntable phono through the Loki, then into the Saga preamp. There's no audio quality reduction from splitting a signal?

Does the Loki have a soft lock at the 12 o clock position of each knob that's a clean unfiltered bypass of that freq?

It was also designed to sit between the preamp and power amp.

That works too, although the 20hz adjustment might be handy for the subs.

Honestly, as some one who despise's Digital EQ on my higher end rigs, this would be nice.

My problem with Digital EQ is it ties me to a, or sometimes THE/my digital source, an no I don't want to build some kind of server to run everything through, having that single digital source be the only was I can EQ is annoying. So I don't... I just don't EQ outside of my super low fi portables. An on my higher end rigs, I collect amps /tubes to adjust tone to suite the needs of the headphone I'm listening with. Now, at least with this I can run WHAT EVER source I want into it and have consistent tone controls, and now feed that tone adjusted singal into the BEST amp I can find, rather than adjusting the EQ of very single one of my digital sources every time I want to listen to something or swapping between two or three different amps

It would be hilarious if Schiit made a Loki specifically for the Grado SR/RS series. The Grados need an EQ like that.

The only change I think you'd have to make for the Grado version would be to have a much narrower Q for the 2kHz band. The rest of the bands are probably all just right for tweaking the Grado SR/RS. The Grados have a narrow peak at 2K. The stock Loki has too wide of a Q at 2K to match up with the Grado 2K peak. Other than that, the stock Loki EQ bands and Q looks to be a good match for tweaking the Grados.

I wouldn't call it hype, just pondering/imagining the possibilities. We haven't even heard it yet.

And we are not smart like you, @HitmanFluffy. (But, you already knew that.)

"Dino - That has crossed my mind from time to time, Wilson. Even a simple tone control box with variable center frequencies. Since getting into headphones, I would sometimes like to just take the edge off or give bass a little boost or cut. An analog Schiit box appeals to me. I don't have a good "why", it just does."

    @schiit

Can you add 4 buttons to the top of the Loki for automatic adjust to specific headphones? You know, like button 1 preset (hd650) and then...nevermind, fuck it. Just one button. :p

I would like it motorized like that amp for the HE-1, too add to the cool factor. Buttons must slowly emerge from within the amp so that I can impress the ladies. Cause I'm pretty sure that's is what impresses them. :D

Seriously though I'd expect to use the Loki with 3-4 headphones and it would be nice to be able to get it back dialed in quickly. That would be the advantage of digital EQ I suppose.

You could make notes of the settings for each headphone. You could slide the paper under the Loki to keep it handy.

DEQ2496 can be had pretty cheap on ebay, and if nothing else, the spectrum analyzer and VU modes are really 90s chic :D

Oh and you can use as a TOSLINK-to-AES converter for bragging rights.
