So after a series of semi-random trades, I find myself in possession of an Audeze GX. It's a bit overkill for office teams meetings, but hey whatever it's something to play with. The laptop jack is woefully underpowered though. Are there any simple usb options aside from a Schiit Fulla or Hel? I'm not opposed to either of those, just wondering what else out there does both the headphone jack and mic input.

Anyone played with an Apogee Symphony Desktop or Duet 3?

After trying (and failing) to get used to an RME ADI 2 fs in my main system (mostly because I needed it's remote) I decided to dust off my Apogee Element 24, plugged in chromecast via optical in and applied a little eq on it's internal dsp (hardware), played with my HD800S and also Genelec 8050s - in both cases it sounded more pleasant and listenable than all of my other DACs: ADI2, Cayin RU6, Dangerous Source, Mojo 2, Qutest 2 etc - it has an almost dithered ethereal presentation combined with studio like accuracy and holographic imaging - I think it's the push and pull between these two opposing sides that Apogee somehow manage to do so well.. it's just very musical, dynamic but also relaxed - I get no ear fatigue at all, but I don't feel like I'm missing out on any resolution or detail.

I still think the Element is one of the best DAC I've listened... it makes me wonder what their newer gear sounds like: Apogee Duet 3 and Symphony Desktop - I can find 0 reviews from a hifi/headphone perspective out in the wild, it's mind boggling to me considering the Element is such a high performer and should have a home in non studio environments.

Looking for a digital audio cable to connect Fiio M15 S/PDIF output to Hugo 2 input.

Hugo 2 input is 3.5mm TRS -- supports dual dig in as from TT2. Digital input 1 is TS, input 2 is RS.

I've got a 3.5mm-to-RCA adapter which came with my M15 -- use it successfully to feed my TT2. But the digital cable I have is RCA-to-BNC, so I'd need two adapters at the Hugo 2 end to use it, plus, it'd be a pain to move.

All that said, I'm looking for another cable and hoping for a good, reasonably priced cable. I could live with either 3.5 on both ends, or 3.5 on the Hugo 2 end and RCA on the M15 end. So ...

    Help, please!!!

my first post on the new Advice thread :)

Does the M15 also use a TRRS 3.5mm port for Coax out that is shared with LO/PO like many other Fiio DAPs?

Yes -- I didn't see that they allow the buyer to customize the terminations -- this is exactly what I needed. Thanks

I'm looking to pick up a ZMF headphone cable and I want to hear opinions on stock vs OFC upgrade. The other cables are more than I am willing to pay. I primarily want to know if the upgrade cable is higher quality and/or more comfortable for general use. Mostly trying to avoid super stiff and uncomfortable cables like the ones Focal used to use.

I find the OFC cable, which is sheathed in a kind of plastic, to be stiff. It retains the shape it was last in, so if you coil it up after use you'll need to take a moment to straighten it before using it again.

The stock cable is much more pliable and comfortable.

(I probably ought to compare the sound of them both but mine have different terminations).

I agree - the stock one is more pliable and comfortable. It does feel a bit thin though, you can feel the strand through the cloth cover and it just feels a bit insubstantial. That probably helps its suppleness but it just feels on the cheap side.

I don't hear any significant difference between the two either.

Thanks for the advice. Probably will stick to stock then. I can always get a heavy duty cable later.

Keep us posted, especially if it's Bifrost 2 size. Could be handy to have.

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right place for my question. I am looking for some advice or recommendation here in my quest to incorporate my 11.2 HT and my 2.2 system sharing the same main L and R speakers and the two subwoofers. Wonder if a passive pre-amp or a passive crossover might be the missing piece of the puzzle.

My current set up is as follows

    1) Anthem 11.2 receiver – a) RCA pre-amp out main L and R speakers to Freya + (premap) RCA input; 2) anthem receiver sub-out to LFE = Left channel of the subwoofers; 3) From Freya + split out to a) my power amplifier to speakers and b) Right channel of the subwoofers
For movies – I would turn on Freya + in passive mode and set max volume for HT By-pass

    2) IFI DAC XLR out to Freya + XLR in, -> split out Freya + to a) my power amplifier to speakers and b) Right channel of the subwoofers

As you can see where the duplication I bolded/italicized above, while there is no issue with 2) playing music with IFI DAC to Freya + to power amp to speakers and subwoofers, an issue is on 1) playing movies with the Anthem receiver, because crossover is set with the receiver to pass all frequencies below 80hz to the two subwoofers through the subwoofer LFE channels. However, frequencies above 80HZ also flows through the Freya + XLR split to the right channel of the subwoofers.

I wonder if a passive preamp might be the solution for movies with the receiver so 1) Freya + split RCA out to the passive preamp first before it gets to the subwoofers, 2) set passive preamp volume to minimum or simply switch to the input that is not connected to anything so no frequencies flow to the subwoofers.

When I want to use the IFI DAC for 2.2 music, I would switch input of the passive preamp to enable frequency to the subwoofers.

My subwoofers are about 10-12 feet away from the Freya +

Does it sound like a solution or perhaps I will need something like a active crossover that I can simply power off the active crossover to block any frequencies going from the Freya to the subwoofers?

Or perhaps I can just dial my subwoofers crossover frequencies manually to 80HZ for movies so pretty much nothing above 80HZ gets through the subwoofers regardless?

How do others do it to set up their HT and dual channel systems with subwoofer integration?

    Thanks
    Deric

What are folks using for live music earplugs? I don't want to go down the custom route again -- too painful when you lose them.
