Been using the Matrix 2s as my main portable can for the last couple weeks, I really like them, specially for the money. Outside of a few niggles I have that don't really have anything to do with performance. Like the fact that the battery indicator always says they are at 100% till they die -_- and definitely just order replacement Brainwavz pads, they make all the difference in the world

 

Thanks to AustinValentine for this deal. That price is a joke so I ordered two pairs for my kids. FR curve posted on IF is overall not bad except for the suckout at 5Khz followed by the relatively large peak at 6Khz. This I assume will contribute to a slightly foggy upper mids/lower treble combined with a bit of a sssshoutiness but overall would probably mostly affect resolution. Not that my boys would care much about such things at the age of 5 and 7 but I would still prefer not to expose them to bad sound.
My question is about Brainwavz pads and how they make all the difference in the world, meaning what exactly do they change in sound signature in your opinion or is it just comfort? Also, there are many varieties, did you get a chance to try different ones? Thanks a lot for your time.

 

Haha yeah, when I say you should get the brainwavz EarPads, it's al about comfort, so much more comfortable. I've only got to try the memory foam leatherette one

Looks like Massdrop has a drop on the new Campfire Audio Nova for 32% off. Seems like a good deal if they end up being good. Not much out there in terms of impressions or reviews yet, but if it is anything like the Orion - the reviews were very positive for that model.

Green Crack-

Green Crack is a custom Crack OTL headphone amp, built by Doc B. on 4/20, for demonstration at a couple of recent Head-Fi meets. It has been upgraded from the standard circuit with the Speedball active load upgrade, a filter choke in the power supply, gigantic Audyn film capacitors replacing three of the electrolytic caps, and it has an Alps Blue Velvet volume pot.

It has been finished in a lovely Altec-like green hammer finish, with a natural alder wood base. Tubes are a Hammond branded RCA clear top 12AU7 and an RCA 6080 output tube.
