A dealer wants to sell me a set of HiFiMan JADE electrostats as part of a deal. This is his ebay ad:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/263539527333

He admits he has no idea of their current value, I don't either. Are these things any good?

No primary experience, but here's some interesting info from a dude at HF - https://www.head-fi.org/threads/he-...y-pre-hifiman-electrostatic-headphone.844733/

Seems like huge variability in thoughts about the units and in the unit-to-unit variability. Price from eBay is also 3x retail. Buyer beware...

As a rule of thumb, 75-80% of retail prices would be reasonable. Even considering rare-ish premiums, 1500-ish at best.

Remember even (used) sr009 was sold below 2k recently.

Personally I don't think hfm jade is a he90 (or r10)-level luxury that can justify their fu**ing high used prices.

He's a volume guy, has just been waiting around for a best-ish offer. He previously turned down $3 grand from Asia so he has that price in his head but may be looking to just get rid of them. Probably cant bring him low enough though.

He's offered a preview listen but looks like an adapter is needed, @mscott58 thanks for the info.

As others have mentioned, there was wild variability with these headphones from unit to unit. You got get a home-run or get your ass burned. Just too much risk unless it's been your ultimate dream to own this headphone and you're comfortable with the risk.

Not sure how good the Jade II is, but they are $1400 and is less of a gamble.

There is an entertaining thread on Head Case about the Jade II. After reading the tear down spritzer did I would not want to put those things on my head.

Imagine covering the paypal fees but end up not covering 4 cents and he cancels the sale. We've had that happen in the past for a $2K sale, but that happening for a $15K deal would be even more beautiful.

16k. If I recall it correctly.

That (in 1991 usd) is converted into 29.8k in 2019 usd. haha

So, this HF guy is selling it at half of new price. Not bad isn't it?;)

Date on the packing box says June 2007, and that leather don't look too good. I'm thinking not such a great bargain.
