Do you consider GUTB's headphone system to be hi-fi or mid-fi? (Post #185)

For me, there is some degree of novelty that I value. Once I discovered how much I liked the JVC HP-DX1000, I sought out the JVC HA-DX2000 because it's the rare anniversary edition of the same headphones.

I was having trouble deciding between the Kenzie and Mogwai, though I felt like I slightly preferred the latter. When I decided to drop money on one of them, being the first to own the Mogwai was a neat perk.

But, really, I just seek out what my ears want to hear and if something else contributes to the cool factor, it's an added bonus.

I've never purchased anything just for the sake of owning it because it's rare, even if I do have a few things here and there that few others have. The extra rarity is neat, but if that influences your ears, you're doing something wrong in my book.

All that said, there's nothing wrong with it. Many people own super expensive cars that are really pieces of shit that look amazing, are outperformed by much less expensive options, are super impractical, etc. If they have the money and the desire for such things, it doesn't have any effect on me.

If you want to own a $40,000 pair of high tech headphones with a $20,000 UFO Sabre dac going into a 5-figure amp straight out of Bioshock, more power to you.

Yeah, it can get frustrating that audio companies are rewarded for their outrageously overpriced crap, but that doesn't devalue anything else out there. I place a lot of emphasis on bang for the buck, so I can still find gear that I consider high value even though companies are pushing 4-5 figure gear that I think sounds terrible.

Hope GUTB doesn't get banned just yet, I find his antics tremendously enjoyable.

But then, I revel in nastiness.

I'd be inclined to agree if he wasn't repeating himself every post, ignoring half the people replying to him and essentially living in his own dream world. It gets unoriginal and tired rather quickly.

There's nothing wrong with liking rare things for their rarity. But as you said, you're in it for the sound first, then anything else is a cool bonus. @GUTB seems to be in for rarity/looks/tech specs first, and sound quality is much further down the list. That's not an audiophile to me, that's a gearphile.

And I don't care if he wants to be a gearphile and lust after cool rare gear. But don't make pronouncements about sound if that's not what you're mainly into the hobby for.

Honestly, you are long-winded, full of self importance, and clearly don't have enough experience with what actually sounds good to be giving others advice nor criticizing the way they describe gear. Given the gear you own, the gear you have owned, and how you describe what you have and hear, you're near the bottom of the list of people who should be throwing stones here.

I get so many complaints about you that I wonder if you're just toxic. One thing we've learned is that if someone gets THIS many complaints from the community in so short a period of time after signing up one of two things always seems to happen:
    1. A level settings with the member occurs followed by some acceptance on that member's part that the forum isn't going to magically validate him or her and his or her perspective. That member lays low for a while, slowly learns how things work, and engages the community in a positive, respectful way going forward.
    2. The member receives a temporary time out over and over until it's no longer temporary.
You can decide which path you want to proceed down.

Before my current setup I used to own a Sonic Frontiers SFD-2 MKII SE+ and ecp audio L-2, both of which I took great pride in ownership not only because they were some of the best sounding gears I've heard but also due to their somewhat legendary, unobtanium status. Now they have been replaced with Yggdrasil and ZDS, both of which could be purchased anytime as they are currently in production. I don't regret this decision, as my current setup simply sounds better to my ears. I can no longer brag about owning rare and vintage gear, but I can assure anyone who comes to my house for a listen is in for a real treat.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. Some of my favorite works of art (functional or otherwise) would not be considered pretty. I certainly don't think the HD600 is pretty, but the sound it makes is fantastic. And when it's on my head, I can't see how it looks anyway.

Anyhoo, you're only confirming my assessment. You like this gear far more for its superficial qualities than for the actual meat and bones. That's okay, just don't pretend you're an expert on sound when it's clear your priorities are appearances (both physical and social).

This is why you need to hear gear and not rely on reviews. I've heard the Sonorous X and the LCD-4, and to me the Sonorous X was the clear winner. But you can't hear with my ears, or the ears of any other reviewer. I'm not saying all reviews are useless, but just because there's a critical consensus doesn't necessarily mean you'll agree.

He's obviously not going to learn anything. How many people know there's an ignore function on this site? *raises hand*

Get a KSC75, then report your findings and look at the price tag.

    Seriously, get a KSC75.

Wait, wait, are the KSC-35 better than the KSC-75?! Dammit, I didn't know about those. Well they cost more so they must be better.

Edit: I see, they appear to be a discontinued model.

Yes, but ignoring this kind of empty commentary is what leads to the head-fi "wtf am I reading?" effect when half of a thread doesn't respond to the other half. This kind of pollution must be met with direct attempts to understand (check), then public shaming (check), and then time outs (pending). We are trying to maintain a community that people want to visit and can easily glean useful info from.

And back on point: the KSC-35 should appeal more to GUTB since it has plenty of glowing reviews and is hard to find due to it being discontinued for (I think) more than 10 years.

Imagine GUTB diving into hyrogenaudio. Yes, it happened... although he was so comparatively restrained over there that I guess he thinks he does get a feel of the place where he is posting. Mind you, I stress the word comparatively.

GUTB, I am not lining up to punch you on the nose. I'm sure your subjective impressions are as valid as mine or anyone else's, and your audio misconceptions are only those of millions of others, but I have noticed that you seem to have a bit of a problem with people (objective, subjective or any mixture) who know what they are talking about.

I just realized he's the Robo Rubio of SBAF!!!

*NOTE: this is not political commentary of any kind; it is objectively weird as shit, sad, and funny when someone says the same thing 3 times in succession without regard for everything else being said to and around them.
