Do you consider GUTB's headphone system to be hi-fi or mid-fi? (Post #185)

I remember seeing them at that (higher?) price on Koss' site for quite a while now (as in 2-3 years maybe), dunno if there's really that much old stock or what. They still look like crappy airline headphones tho... ;)

From the looks of it GUTB would break out in hives by just putting on such a plastic fantastic on his discriminating ears. Not that there's anything wrong with putting some value on aesthetics.

I always thought the KSC50 looked better than the rest, and the ear clip seemed sturdier, and they had a behind-the-headband KSC55 variant even... Pretty sure those really have been discontinued tho.

Yeah, the KSC 35 never looked like much. However they sound much better than they have any right to IMHO.

Sometimes companies hit it out of the ballpark, possibly without even realizing it.

Those look extremely lo-fi. The KZ-ATE was also praised to high heaven on /r/headphones and Head-Fi, so I bought them -- and turned out, they were, in fact, lo-fi.

Again, sorry for not responding to everyone, but I'm effectively "soft-banned" from the forum as I generally have to reload a page 3-4 times to show up, wait on extreme lag for pages to be fetched when they do show up / not get re-directed to an error page. I'll probably have to reload the page several times just to post this message. Probably some XenForo feature / add-in that's being abused, but whatever; I sent a PM to Purrin so that's all I can do.

In regards to Hyrogenaudio, the hardcore objectivsts over there are plenty abrasive and very defensive about their religion; it seemed to drive some of them crazy that I not only took the AVS hi-res ABX challenged but actually got some results from it -- I'll fully admit that it was very difficult with differences between 16/44.1 and 24/96 being slight. No one over there has threatened to ban me repeatedly though.

Oohgourami seems to have turned against me -- either because of going with the flow, or because I officially dismissed the open-grill mod for the HE-6 as being junk.

Well this isn't /r/headphones or Head-Fi, is it?

EDIT: Stop calling people "hardcore objectivists" when you yourself were trying to chase 130db SNR for whatever reason just the other day. That's just hypocritical

/facepalm Yes, yes they do, that was kinda the point... They also have a lifetime warranty! (for real) So they're guaranteed to keep looking like dollar store headphones for life, booyah.

i think it's pretty irrelevant what other communities do - or don't do - in relation to people junking up threads. communities that do nothing about it end up taking a certain form, and communities that *do* something look quite different. i would encourage you to not interpret the kinds of feedback you've received as a sign that this community favors insiders over outsiders or even that this community doesn't like negative feedback on gear. i think you'll find that this community, more than others, is openly critical about certain things when it is warranted - this to me is valuable because it helps me separate signal from noise, or shit from shinola. Similarly, this community, more than others, is welcoming of insiders that are constructive, collegial, and open minded enough to not judge a book by its cover - or it's price.

I, as apparently some others, have been reading this thread for the entertainment value. I've never been a website admin (nor would I EVER), and I am certain many of you, and especially Marv, have a proprietary and protective attitude toward SBAFs content, but why does one moron get so many so up in arms? I've always found refusal to engage to be the best response to self-aggrandizing ignorance, of which Mr. GUTB clearly has an excess. Relax and enjoy the show. Doesn't seem fair to ban someone for being an idiot.

I agree. The ignore function exists. Much like scabs, a troll seldom gets better if you pick at it.

I just got a pair of Potrapro. It definitely wasn't bad but I was underwhelmed; I guess I expected a little bit more refined sound. Is the KSC 35/75 that much better?

Portapro is a bassier & more forward KSC35 because of the headband pressing the driver closer to your ear.

Need to Quarter and Kramer mod the Portapro to get the best out of it. The KSC35 is better out of the box.

Yar! If you have a Dremel sitting around, its easier to do. I did mine like so. (This is a photo from before I took a small file to remove the burrs on the plastic).

The KSC 35 is a very good sounding headphone. It is not state of the art or anything, but it sounds really nice and it is non pretentious.

I used to buy these and give them to friends and family. EVERYONE enjoyed them very much! Keep the expectations low and let the headphone do it's thing.

    You will come away smiling...

The images do not inspire great faith in their sonic virtues. But why not, I'll pick up a pair -- it's just pocket change -- if you guys can handle the critical listening regime report I'm going to issue on them.

Get off your high horse and try them. I am trying to be nice to you by suggesting the best audio purchase you can make for little money.

I refused to use the dislike button and decided to give you best advice I can think of. Try the KSC75.
