It unseats the HD650, oh my lanta.

Apparently this packdemon guy (who I know vaguely from other forums) is not revealing the mod details because he is charging people to mod their headphones.

Yea I made the mistake of having the HP100 before too while I was still a budding Head-Fier that didn't know crap. I got rid of it within a month. Ugh, so many mistakes...

QFT. That "reviewer" also has a long history of zealously pushing gear he has never even heard, based on recommendations read elsewhere. I challenged him on it once or twice back when I was still attempting to feed some signal into the noise on HF, but I've given up on that fool's errand.

I know, that's why I laugh so hard when I see the HP100 mentioned.

There's so much misinformation on HF that repeated falsities become consensus fact and I didn't realize it until I came here because I tend to assume that other people are competent and speaking from experience (which doesn't usually hold true on HF due to the ratio of new to old users, I blame my naïveté).

The bias of needing to spend money and justify it also makes the entire site experience confusing. Who do you trust to be a reliable source? Unless you go out and compare user impressions to your own and see whose opinions match yours, you're more or less at the mercy of the latest frenzy.

It's more like a shopping site now than it was 8 or 9 years ago when I was active there.

I absolutely HATE it when manufacturers do this.. so disrespectful to both informed and uninformed buyers.

    Two words:

    Mike Mercer.

I don't doubt his a good bloke to talk to in person but his favouritism for Audeze and endless shill-like reviews on anything new out there....

Actually, he's the same Mr. Excitable in person. He's received so much crap from people at Changstar, and yet he doesn't hold a grudge against anyone. You gotta respect that.

Where is the Mercer evaluation of the Sine surpassing the EL-8C (newest rev?) ??
    :D
actually, am tempted just to nab the Sine for a personal trial myself and return if they can't match the 400S on Vali2.

So one of those ends was having him throw up all over the CJ impressions thread on HF.

What's funny is that the moment something new comes out, whatever the "new hotness" was before, immediately gets dismissed in favor of the new thing. Case in point is the Audeze Sine. Prior to the Sine's release, all I heard was PM-3, PM-3, PM-3. Now, I have the PM-3 and I like it a lot. It has great synergy with my Pono player and has a really nice, lush sound to it. However, it's not the last word in anything, just a very nice mid-fi portable headphone.

Now, if you go into the Sine thread, suddenly it's that the PM-3 is SO boring, it's SO dull, it's SO flat and lifeless. And the Sine? Well the Sine is SO lively and SO full of energy and SO much better than the PM-3. I saw tons of people in that thread saying "Oh I was going to get a PM-3, but thanks everyone for setting me straight! I'm ordering a Sine right now!"

Now, I have heard people say that the PM-3 does feel a bit boring, which I personally disagree with but can understand why someone would say that. Tyll even mentioned the "honor roll student" element of the PM-3, how it checks all the boxes but isn't necessarily very exciting. But it's just funny how most people on HF said the PM-3 was SO great, until any available alternative reared its head, and now it's SO boring, and the Sine is what you really want! And I can tell you if Hifiman made a closed back portable, that thread would be full of people saying the Sine is SO inadequate, and the new headphone is SO good and that's the one everyone should buy.

The consensus changes very quickly there, it's easy to get lost in the sea of rotating sponsorships.

New member here. I just have to say that I enjoy the small town charm of this place moreso than Head-Fi. Haven't been a regular on Head-Fi long enough to really make any beef, but I think I'll stick around here.

Just a warning. We can be totally childish and act like seven year old boys doing the Internet equivalent of sticking boogers to the walls with scotch tape.

If you need tape to stick your boogers to the walls, you're doing it wrong :sail:

I still visit headfi on a pretty much daily basis. Maybe just because I have no life, but so be it. I feel like I should explore as many different opinions as are available, and am confident enough in my ability to separate the wheat from the chaff that the prevalence of morons and shills there is not a problem for me.

I try to avoid HF as much as possible because people like Dsnuts and sfwalcer exist and an Etymotic filter change is passed off as a legit mod with its own name.

Only stuff worth it would be the posts by Jason and co. in the Schiit happened thread. And Tari's reviews. Man, I can *never* get tired of this.
