Good ear. This is arranged by Masahiro Ando, who was basically the leader of T-Square!

Saga is a very 80's band that made it big in Germany but that's about it, somehow my dad found them in a record shop and has been a lifelong fan (probably the only one in Kansas) and because I'm a carbon copy of my dad I LOVE SAGA. They have a melodic sensibility that's unlike any other and I love those 80's tones, especially on those descending toms! While they're not nearly as fun as a lot of the jazz fusion groups I like, I go back to listen to their iconic lines all the time.

A spectral paradox of a song, one brilliantly overdetermined by necessity, contingency, fate and genius; perhaps the only song I've ever posted that's worth anything. Tracks come and go, this is an opus, and perhaps the American opus in music.

Almost frighteningly stark, primeval, stripped down to the primitive frame of the once-lyrical composition, atmospherically barren yet brimmed with emotive fecundity, the high static vintage to its maker's time, dripping with mortal terror, agony and hope—yes, hope! And yes, dripping! This century old work weeps inside itself, and for its subject, to soon make his triumphal return!

    Soon!

What ecstatic throes of grief, of exquisite suffering, of anguished lips! —But never a discernible word of complaint!

A distinct, guttural, human voice in soaring call-and-response to an aching, impossibly-played slide guitar.

    A drip-drop eastern-like drone.

    A bleeding tone poem.

A vacuum, a catharsis, a suspended moment in which we may see what is at the end of every fork in the road.

Defiant of genre, this is not the desperado's blues, or the heartbroken's gospel, or the addict's spiritual, but man's song. This song belongs to all of us, when most we need it.

Stare into the abyss of the soul of all humanity, and the heroic Blind Willie Johnson's face will turn to meet yours.

This song now fittingly orbits through space at many times the speed of a comet aboard both Voyager spacecraft—but this transcendental work has always been extraterrestrial, collapsing both space and time and crumbling the opposites into a singular vision, one, which, if we're lucky, we can see, too.

Have had UZEB on the listening list for several years and I'm finally listening and wow they've got some sick ones! I love the 80's tones and they're full of it! It's cool to hear jazz fusion that is a little more under the radar

How have I never heard of the insanity that is 100 Gecs?? Is it electronic? Rap metal? Mall punk? Ska? Rap? Listen to the whole album and the answer is yes. Madness and genius and pure energy. Thank you, Pitchfork’s Best New Music.

Both from the album 10,000 gecs

Finally listening to Floating Points and I'm being brought back into the Philip Glass realm but with beat-less-ness. It's great to listen to music that is more 'feel oriented' rather than 'beat oriented'

I have enjoyed some Jack White stuff in the past but I wouldn’t say I’m an avid Jack White listener. That first Raconteurs album (Broken Boy Soldiers) got quite a bit of playtime from me though. The guitar tones on “Level” are otherwordly. Love the simplicity and monster tone of that solo with the unison guitars at the end and the tones throughout. There are many great live performances of it around but to me the tone in those never matches the studio cut. Great vocals too. It’s a perfect rock song.
