You know, having seen how aggressive and arsey he gets in "his" threads while dickwaving about the extent of his almost random spending, I think that's a very charitable reaction.

(It will usually just throw up an error while copying, anyway, if you have one of those fakey Chinese flash drives that misreport their own capacity- once you get past the small amount of flash that is really there, everything grinds to a halt. I don't think he's in much danger beyond possibly pre-loaded malware :D)

Do you think it's justified for North Korea mods to delete responses just because it is deemed to be negative to/or attacking another manufacturer?

i.e. This kind of attacks/negative comments happens all the time on computer audiophile, diyaudio, audiogon, audio asylum and etc.

Powerful shit. HF is a classic protection racket, you pay tribute, keep your mouth shut and get a chance to sell your wares.

Can't comment on the experiences of others ... but I'm hoping to get some time with the Spring DAC this week.

I'm generally wary of any claims of "leagues of difference" when we're talking about DACs at that level. In general, between about $1,000 and $15,000 the differences I've heard, even within a common architecture, have been within single-digit percentage points (as crass and useless a measure as that is).

For me there is a gulf between "clearly discernible/preferable" to "leagues/huge/night and day" differences and what I actually encounter. Often it takes a lot of critical listening to get to the bottom of that. And even then I find it sometimes takes a while for things to properly crystalize. For example, I've been largely a proponent of Chord's Mojo since I got mine. I still think it's very good, especially if you consider it as a DAC+amp, vs. just a DAC, but I'm rather less enthusiastic about it than I was even a couple of months ago.

A common enemy is an essential part of a communal identity.

But on a more serious note, I think it's good to note head-fi's bullshittery so long as we also note SBAF's bullshitterry when and if it occurs.

Hard to say whether moderators at Head-Fi are either deliberately removing information critical of manufacturers or are so lazy they just delete without even bothering to read into the context. Neither looks good.

On a site with plenty of low volume, small businesses it's inevitable to find some whiny manufacturer who demands deletion just because someone said the stuff they sell sounded crap. It can't be proved whether your gear sounds good or bad (subjectivism ho!) so there is absolutely no reason the moderators should get involved unless rules are actually being broken in spirit rather than on technicality. So the response from the moderators should be dealwithit.jpg to the manufacturer.

No doubt the Head-Fi moderators will be childish and admit no wrong rather than professional. Once again damaging their reputation.

As for manufacturers criticizing designs from other manufacturers it shouldn't be an issue if they criticize it in a generic sense rather than explicitly talking about the manufacturer and their product.

"External clocks are bad because..." OK

"The external clock used by X manufacturer in Y product is bad because..." - Not OK

For people who aren't members of trade they can crap over whatever design they want regardless of how ignorant they are. No reason a moderator should get involved unless they are using personal attacks to an individual person (Jason Stoddard sucks) rather than a business (Schiit sucks).

Why not call it out? We have our own craziness and groupthink, it's just a different flavour. There have been tons of threads where people (including Marvey et. al) have been called on things, and have taken their lumps with differing amounts of good grace.

Ironically, I think robust discussion relatively free from censorship makes us more civil, not less. People who have had a good argument and got it out of their systems, remaining civil afterwards, are often all the better for it. The happy clappy "let's all pretend everything is awesome" approach that is enforced elsewhere can cause people to fester with suppressed resentment.

once changstar came around, i stopped visiting head-fi completely. even before everything i knew the site was a joke and seem individuals had a hard time thinking for themselves and, every opinion you had, if it was against something head-fi didn't like, they just ban you temp or something else. not like to have a reasonable discussion without opinions on how you feel about something, especially when you call something out. i stopped visiting there long time ago and don't bother with head-fi. i don't even remember my account password or if it even exist anymore. in a way head-fi is a cancer. it just keeps spreading the same nonsense over and over and over again multiplying over lapping everything of consideration and wiping it away if it doesn't get what it wants.

Yeah, I totally see what @MoatsArt is getting at here. I do think however that to sometimes point out the hypocrisies and disinformation so prevalent on HF is a useful reminder as to why we are all here on SBAF. It's also perhaps essential reading for HF members who are questioning the HF Way and looking for something better. It does admittedly become less persuasive when we reduce ourselves to petty snipes, but hey we're all emotional beings and sometimes need to share our internal rant with other like-minded souls.

The thing is, HF is the 900 pound gorilla, or possibly the elephant in the room (gnu in the bathtub?). If we didn't mention it sometimes, and if some of us didn't visit it occasionally, it'd be a little strange. The fact that it has become more or less unusable for anything other than sweaty testimonials and sales patter is troubling- if you google for "<headphone> review", you tend to get HF at or near the top, so their effect on available and accurate information is quite an issue whether you post there or not.

They control a lot of the narrative, and they're a bunch of lying d-bags. I do feel like this is a problem, and if it isn't, it should be.

This is offensive to me. My second cousin's brother's wife's son had baby cancer and died. Please consider your words more carefully before you hurt more feelings.

This was one of the first posts on this forum. It's been active for a good year now. I renamed this thread to subtlety hint that the gripes in this thread are getting kind of old. I considered closing the thread, but I figured I'd let people vent. Because venting is healthy and that's a good thing. Also, it's a good way for you guys to remind me to push Jude's buttons every month or so.

I can see at some point closing the thread. If this thread didn't exist, I wouldn't go back to read select posts or threads on HF. And I am usually sorry about it later. HF is already irrelevant to most of us, and becoming irrelevant to more people. I guess you can say that HF is the source for new product announcements, but so what?
