Also, getting a full night’s sleep does wonders for run-away rumination. That also means drinking less.

Try engaging in the narcissism of thoughts less. Also, read zen and the art of archery.

@David De Lucena the few times I have done that, I have really enjoyed it. Also why I enjoy things like rowing, running, and skiing, I don't think, just enjoy.
@skem I do get a good 8 hours per night usually. Also I do drink less now, I don't want to make a fool of myself, feel terrible the next day, or kill my liver

I had a great night last night, fun time, because I reduced my thinking. If I overthink, I end up doing nothing.

Cook the same dish 50 to 100 times in a week. You will start meditating and cook on muscle memory and senses alone. That is part of my life now.

What do I do with 50 to 100 of the same dish after I cook it though...

Sometimes what's needed is not necessarily less thinking, but careful thinking. The multitude of possibilities can be distracting, like many colored marbles all rolling at the same time. Try to figure out which of your ideas are similar or inter-related, and group them together. You might find that your thoughts distract you less.
