Noticed you're in my neck of the woods. If it helps/if you feel comfortable, I could loan you my BF2 for a bit.

I might take you up on that, thanks for reaching out. I really like that gungnir has 2 SE out. I'm kind of a 3 amp guy for months now. Would be super convenient. I guess the reports of the Gungnir SE not being as good is the only concern.

Another vote for BF2. Consistency bw SE and bal in fact helps you a lot in one source multi amp configurations.

BF2, had both for a while, Bf2 is a mini Yggdrasil.

I have both and will probably sell the Gungnir Multibit a2 - bifrost 2 comes pretty close in performance, tonality works better for me (slightly warmer), takes up less than half the desk space, and has better SE outs. And it's cheaper.

Gungnir A1 or A2? They’re like completely different DACs

Be forewarned tho, BF2 is a bit "fatbottomed girls". Technicalities are like, holy shit Yggdrasil, but a bit plump when comparing both side by side. takes well to informed pairings/system synergies.

This run of comments, plus some in the Bifrost 2 thread, makes me think I should keep my Gungnir on A1.

I'm actually leaning towards an A1, can schiit unison an A1 ? Probably just get a BF2 cuz lazy. The extra fat bottum might be ok with a tube swap in liquid platinum. Probably mate up nice with SW51+ and Asgard 3. LCD2 and 6xx for now.

Yes, Schiit can add Unison to an A1.

I actually don’t hear this “extra fat bottom” at all - it’s warmer than gungnir a2 (which is neutral/leaner), but it’s no way warm or boomy or whatever. The modius (Balanced or SE) is a lot warmer/has more midbass bump than the bifrost 2 is, which is pretty even.

Edit: fwiw, in the threads most people who had Gungnir Multibit a1 found the bifrost 2 to be an “upgrade”

That's probably because we all come from different places. To me Yggdrasil A2 is spot on. So BF2 is just a tick or two below in tone. But I can understand relative warmth can differ for those whose reference point is different.

@Vtory i think some gear have pretty strong character to how they sound. Bifrost 2 is one of them. I think it’s warm sounding. Not really a relative thing. It is what it is.

The reason why I think it relative is I can't fully agree with that statement even though I've been running it for straight 11+ months. Warm-cold is kinda too 1 dimensional oversimplification. I don't think it dichotomy either. It's not harsh or cold by any means to me. But how warm is entirely up to personalized coordinates.

@Vtory i agree, specifically in this case because the BF2 doesn’t really sound like anything else.

In case anyone is interested going on a week with Bifrost 2. Completely worth it. Side note, this thing makes an amp like Asgard 3 even better ! Tried coax with oppo 103 like unison better ..

It's hard to shut things off and go into work early. So I guess that's a good sign. Liquid platinum and Asgard 3 are much elevated. Still have a sweet spot for sw51+ and modius though.

Just to clarify on the Girls That Make the Rockin' World Go Round comment/comparison, yes I'm coming from YggyA2 being "neutral" and coming before that, GumbyA2 being a bit clinical and dry in the bass.

in my opinion BF2's fat bottom is below 80Hz, more like a slight bump around 40-60Hz, so synth bass and kick drums kinda surprise you with an extra bit of oooph. Not necessarily a bad thing depending on what's being fed from BF2, imho.

The thing that bothers me about the Bifrost 2 is the veiled sounding midrange. Sounds this way with every system I’ve tried from my speakers to HD650, focal clear, and fostex TH -X00. I feel like all of schiit’s multibit dacs have this characteristic, but it’s very noticeable on the bifrost 2.

I sort of noticed that mid range veil when I got modius after modi multibit for 2 years. It doesn't have that and seems to have more resolution. Sort of a 4k picture. I have not heard anything better so... I feel it combines those 2 things but better.
