Well, the old "presidential dignity" that propped up the post WW2 status quo order is over. I for one don't miss it, but it is a source of anxiety of many. I loved how Wallace cried "let's get serious", his pinning for the dead past...
I know it won't happen due to *powers that be giving fake choices* but I would love to see a few 3rd party candidates in these. I know the Libertarian candidate's website crashed due to increased traffic during the debate. ** = insert preferred conspiracy here
Laughed at Wallace's face after section one though (also when I stopped watching) - he slipped and had about 1-2 seconds of utter dejection that pretty much said "this is going to be a long night with these 2 idiots".
I'm tired of voting against candidates... I want to vote for a candidate. It's been many, many years since I've actually voted for someone in a presidential election.
I think the last time I had the mental disposition of voting "for" someone was when I pulled the lever for Ross Perot in 92, though I would not do so today ;)
Our de facto two party system has its advantages, but these days I would prefer a more Euro style multi-party system where you can actually vote for what you believe in, and they have to form a coalition government.
@crenca Ross Perot - the great spoiler of the ‘92 election. :) I did not vote for him but I found him thoroughly entertaining and I went to one of his rallies for the entertainment value. I was not disappointed.
Not American, never been there, so hey, probably skip this, but...
Seems to me that, regardless of the political future, there is currently a job to be done in America. That job requires a guy who reeks of competence and shows up people who don't, skill in oratory and adversarial questioning And reasonable decency. Job requirements. If not fulfilled, job won't be done.
@Thad E Ginathom ... absolutely correct. And neither of our candidates are even remotely up to the task. TBH, anyone up to the task wouldn't want anything to do with the job given the current political and media (social and otherwise) climate.
The whole thing just needs rebooted. Give them all an early retirement, send them home and shut down DC.
Maybe you guys could borrow Britain's Starmer: he's good at handling Yellow Man, he could probably handle Orange Man. But there's a long time before he gets to fight an election. Which his predecessor screwed up completely.
