Thanks @schiit. Glad we were all told. I guess I gotta pay the price now. Fact is, I put the LIM in my GS + I just purchased and the LIMcard ls worked fine. Now I have broken Schiit.
I guess this is the price we pay for assuming it'll just slot in. I'm not making fun of you btw; I'd make the same mistake had I bought other Yggdrasil cards.
I kind of realize that too @ChaChaRealSmooth, but a pretty hefty price to pay for something that was designed for play and play and the info for what will or will it work is very convoluted. I even sent a message to Schiit about it with no response.
Having a hard time parsing what happened. Did you try to boot the LIM cards without the LIM EEPROM plugged in and just the old GS/A1 plugged in instead? If so, why? Did you not have the LIM EEPROM sent with the cards?
If you used the LIM EEPROM it’s hard to understand what might have happened. My Yggdrasil is an old A1 that got Schiit upgraded to A2, then I changed it to LIM, and now I’ve changed it to GS/A1. No problems. If they’re sending Yggdrasil+-only LIM EEPROMs now or something (similar to what happened with MIB and @RestoredSparda), that would definitely suck for them to not mention esp. if it could brick a unit.
@internethandle My A1 was swapped out for LIM cards (used), no analog out form LIM or A1 cards. Motherboard fried (according to Schiit) The ERPROM was sent with the LIM cards but I did not think about it because I did not know I had even needed it.
I’m sorry that happened to you, but I can also see why their position might be that they don’t feel liable if you didn’t swap out the firmware. They were very hesitant to allow user upgrades in the past for a reason. Still, they’ve since changed their tune with “Autonomy” in BF2 and sending out Yggdrasil cards, so getting more involved with explaining how to install (with disclaimers) might be a good idea, sure.
Using the wrong firmware won't permanently brick the Yggdrasil or damage the motherboard. You'd just need the correct firmware, which we would supply. It sounds like there was something else wrong with your Yggdrasil. Do you have documentation of what we charged you for?
@schiit In the PayPal invoice it only says “Replaced the motherboard”. I have not paid it yet. I sent in asking if I could just pay for the + chassis upgrade would that cover everything.
Bottom line, the firmware cannot damage the motherboard or permanently brick the product. We have added a "Yggdrasil Version" drop-down when you order boards from us so we know which version of firmware to send. That is the only actual firmware issue--different versions for Yggdrasil and Yggdrasi+. The replacement of your motherboard is unrelated to firmware.
For me, I think the ribbon cable for the front panel must have messed with the regulators that are kind of in the way there and caused some voltage failure. That is my best guess - so be careful out there.
