HD650 + Valhalla 2 is an easy win, especially if you want that headstage that only tubes can do. Everything else up to $1.5k is mostly different not better, except for the odd Russian mad-genius stuff. Feliks may have had a shot, but they've increased pricing x2 since they got successful on HF.

All above with 300 ohm Z load and high gain setting.

    #1 - passed
#2 - not sure, but likely
    #3 - supposedly passed

    What a low hanging fruit!

If I suddenly get pinged one day out of the blue for one of these, I'll make sure to ping you first before I even respond. :)

    ----

To add to the challenge, if a piece of gear turns out to be so good (basically if it just gets past me), I'll even vow to purchase it (if the individual/manufacturer would like to sell) after all is said and done. (Am I gonna end up with both an Asgard 3 and Magni 3+??)

I think NwAvGuy issued a similar challenge to beat O2 and then... never showed up ever again, so nobody could challenge him at all.

Does the Valhalla 2 or OTL in general stage differently larger than other tube topologies? Asking as someone who prioritizes raw soundstage size over the 3D layeres but kinda claustrophobic sound that usually drives me back to solid-state.

Are the new Magnis the 'typical' upfront Schiit sound?

In my tiredness when posting the technical measurements I forgot to point out that both 3+ and Heresy achieve

bandwidth of DC to over 1 MHz. props to Jason & Co.

I've updated the technical measurements threads appropriately. Edits are in the the first three posts in each thread:

    Magni 3+ technical measurements

    Magni Heresy technical measurements

The only solution for this big grand expansive soundstage that you seek are the EC amps with the high-frequency filament heaters or the ZDS. DNA second. Everything else is like comparing 0-60mph times with front wheel drive 4 cyl motors.

The only affordable SS amp that gives you inkling of this is the Drop THX 789. Valhalla 2 is slightly better than that. ZDTjr in between. After these, a huge gap, then the big boy tube amps.

Slightly off-topic post, but to add my $0.02 to the discussion on large headstage from SS amps.

@RedFuneral , for what you are seeking, you may want to keep an eye out for a used EC BW2. Giant headstage. Doesn't do layering and holographicicity on quite the level of tube amps. Of all hybrid and SS amps I have tried* under $1.8k, BW2 has the largest stage (particularly out of its 4-pin XLR** out).

    * - Schiit Magni3, Lyr3, Mjolnir2, Bryston BHA1, Cayin HA6, iFi iCan Pro and a few more I am unable to recollect.

** - 4-pin XLR on BW2 is actually SE. But it does seem to have a very slightly larger stage than the 6.3mm port.

    I could add the V280.
The balanced out has a very capable headstage a quite holographic one still no tube like.
(Doesn't apply to the single ended)

Bet it would work as RF gain for long wave and first half of medium wave radio bands.

I remembered a funny incident. In the North of Moscow there is an area where a powerful radio transmitter works. A friend of mine lived in the area. His sound quality depended on the position of the cords. In the North-South position of the sound is disgusting, in the East-West position, you can listen to something. This happened with almost any amplifier.
In this area, I pushed my car almost 200 meters to the exit of this zone, because the radio alarm did not allow me to open the doors with a keychain and did not allow me to start the engine.

Just out of curiosity, will Magni 3+ be able to drive efficient bookshelf speakers by using cable like this?
Someone described it as mini vidar that intrigued me if it can drive speakers even..

If Headphone out is much stronger than PreOut, then maybe using this cable and change RCA to Banana Plugs termination?

    Maybe not....

Thank you, that's what I was afraid of, that there wasn't a strong recommendation in the budget range. I made the mistake of joining a tour for the Apex Teton and it showed me what a big money amp can do.

To pull it back on topic a bit, is staging just a big nope with affordable amps like these. To the point where it isn't even worth comparing the new Magnis & other cheap SS?

Jason said over on HF that this is a no-no. Something something thermal protection; something something heatsink.

While it makes for a funny story now, I bet you weren't laughing at the moment having to push your car 200 meters just to restore system operation.
