One thing bothers me about all of this for years.

The landmass that connects Europe, Asia and Africa has been desired by all kinds of rulers and empires for millennia. From the Black Sea to the Fertile Crescent, this has been happening for so long. As a kid I used to read the Bible and history books to get a sense of why, how and when. Well there are many reasons.

Thing is, every landmass on this earth that connects one or more continents, thus trade-routes is very beneficial to control. How many empires has it been now? Who knows? What matters is that this is not new.

In 1921 the Ukrainians could not unify and the the Soviet Union took over. In 1991 the Ukraine became kind of independent but was not quite stable yet.

Now it is 2023 and it is a cluster-f**k. Well, read and learn. That is the fate of this particular landmass between Europe, Asia and Africa. It will not end.

Very LOL when most of the FL GOP Reps are backing Trump over DeSantis except for one Congresswomen who used to work for DeSantis.

I hope the U.S. will have a president that knows how to behave.

Kindness requires more inner strength than most people realise.

In NL some people celebrate 10 years a king. Some people detest him. He sometimes forgets that he is only the king because of the deal the monarchy made in 1848. Post 1848 Europe could have been without monarchies. He is not the smartest head of state. I hope he learns.

My friend Lau, a pursor with KLM concurs with your opinion of him. She tells me afterwards whenever he's been piloting one of her KLM flights that he's a bit socially awkward but obviously wants to try and mix it up with the 'little people' from time to time. Security takes up the entire front row of seats dressed as unconvincing tourists. lol

What are you up to for Kingsday this year buddy?
I might just stay at home, get a couple of tompouces in and have a nice cup of coffee. rock n roll. :punk:

I work in Amsterdam tomorrow. Whatever happens, everybody expects chaos. The municipality of Amsterdam sometimes just closes off parts of the city and you have to hope you can actually find a way.

Good thing most of the building/renovating in the city centre has been finished. Imagine people using holes and containers at building sites for toilet or vomit purposes.

They can use our special, dedicated thread now.

Or just go to Romford, Essex, UK, 2.00am Sunday mornings.

As a public service you can buy a truck full of buckets and give them to partying people to keep the streets partially clean.

    Call it a bucket party...

I haven't been to Amsterdam. Maybe I'll put it on my take-a-bucket list.

(I have visited The Netherlands. Had a wonderful sailing holiday there)

Find a local who can show you around (in order to avoid the tourist traps) and focus on the quiet places. Like every big city that thrives on tourism, between 7 and say 10 A.M. you can move around with more ease and actually enjoy the morning sun.

When you learn the routes the locals use to avoid traffic and tourists, you just relax and enjoy.

The beaches north of Scheveningen, Zandvoort and further north. The Amerongsebos. The Veluwe. Den Haag. Haarlem. Lisse at this time of year is very colourful!

A year later or so after some heated discussions:

    GREEN

Yeah, a lot of the green stuff is virtue signalling and denial that the real cause of climate change is simply too many people on the planet (running AC and Class A amps - I'm guilty of this myself). A lot of it are ideas that just aren't pragmatic - that is can't be implemented soon (electric cars will require electrical infrastructure that will take decades with regulatory, environmental, and NIMBY hurdles).

There are more sensible reasons though: Industrial policy, which the USA is now doing because our politicians have suddenly realized that it's been in a great power competition with China for two decades now. (China throws considerable state resources where it wants it to dominate like solar panels and rare earth metals needed for motor magnets and batteries). Another reason could be strategic because we don't want to be dependent upon OPEC+ with their two-bit authoritarian leaders for our energy needs (Merkel-Germany is a lesson). The best reason is probably because we don't want to leave the planet a mess for future generations.

I read in the WSJ the other day about folks in the Midwest pushing back against green tech, bitching about windmills and solar panels ruining their serene pastures, ruining Kevin Costner's Fields of Dreams. Imagine a windmill in behind the rows of corn forming the edges of outfield of the baseball field in that film. Oh how horrible! The WSJ went on to describe what apparently could be the real reasons for the pushback: politics and anti-Biden (MAGA). "Over our dead bodies" and "I was here first".

This is why I am really hating old people in this country (even though I am one of them or soon will be). I am left scratching my head. The power companies are actually paying the farmers and ranchers to install windmills or run power lines over their land. The owners have every right of refusal? I don't see the need for such a reaction, but alas, it's because it has become political. Green is incompatible with conservatism.

What I really don't get is that Texas, a red state, is number one in the USA in windmill power generation and will probably be number one in solar by the end of this year if not already, surpassing California. I guess Texas conservatives would rather make money than have their dislike of Biden and progressive agendas turn them into full retards. Besides, green energy isn't political. The tech is now on par or less expensive per unit of energy generation over fossil fuels. Yeah, it's 2023 old people.

    UKRAINE - RUSSIA

You are wrong! It's not the whole world against Russia. It's just a few select Western countries. Yeah, tell me about it. Even China is getting sick of this shit because war is just bad for business. China, India, Brazil and several other states close to Russia have unexpectedly voted for a UN Resolution which strongly censures Moscow. I like what India's Modi said to Putin half a year ago: "not an era of war [dude]".

For Putinists, this is your new reality. You can deny this all you want, but deep in your heart, you know it's true.

It's really hit home for me personally now, since I am actually working with young people, brilliant smart people, who got the f**k outta Russia. The ones who couldn't get out fully (managed to stay nearby but still too close), looks scared. Hey, history repeats itself in Russia - Russia's greatness ebbs and flows depending upon who is running it.
