Yeah, I'll have full measurements/impressions this week. Gonna pad roll as a magnetic ring slides out of the pads and slips in to whatever pad you want to use. Pretty neat!

I've chosen non-resonant plastic that is in the same time elastic and durable. Silent block in cars are sometimes produced from same material. Also cup doesn't interact with airflow from membrane. All inner space inside cup is taken by driver.

Those are early experiments. Not for sale ;)

Right now ~540 grams. If I manage to do them in series i'll reduce weight to ~450 grams. To do so I need to move from CNC router to die casting

First headphones I've built were about 3 years ago and they were electrostatic. They were much better then Verum but manufacturing process was too difficult and expensive + special dedicated amplifier ;( First magnetic planar transducer I've built 2 years ago. Sure it doesn't mean that each day during 2 years I've spent 8 hours per day to build headphones. But it tooks a lot of time to build something I can ask money for.

I always build left and right channel at the same time. They're equal by design and I never build many drivers to find a matching pair. That would be too cost ineffective.

    Garuspik,
    Sorry, "polycaproloctam"? polycaprolactone?
    Or polycaprolactone only for prototyping?

I don't know the exact diffrence in English. Let's name it in another way - Nylon 6. The particular material I use also reinforced with carbon fibre.

    In vino veritas!

Absolutely same topolgy. But made more accurate.

For equal hardness of the membrane across the entire field.

Yes, it would be better. But I need to install additional magnets and this will lead to additional mass. Also I need to order another mould for shorter magnets. So it's a compromises between sound and comfort+price.

I think the swirly "fake wood" look in the original picture looks very nice.

The frequency response looks great, as does the overall design. Well done!

Thanks, so good old "kapron" :)
"polycaprolactone" is used for prototyping sometimes, this got me confused.

Doesn't look like any kind of wood I've personally seen.
Is polished stainless steel suddenly 'fake chrome' ?

edit: I agree that matte or textured black would look much better

Pretty cool id say, even if they sound like crap, which does not appear to be the case, I admire the sheer audacity to attempt a project like that. You have my attention. If you are looking for testers I know someone with two thumbs that wouldn't mind giving them a test drive....

I like the styling, the frequency response, and the price. Looking good all the way around!

@Garuspik - An apology is in order.

This week has been beyond stressful. A new CEO is reorganizing the whole company, good people are being laid off, and my sanity/patience has been stretched to its limits numerous times this week. (That it is only Tuesday should say something.) I'm not using this as an excuse, only an explanation.

My comment was inappropriate, and I apologise.

    Thank you for your understanding.

@Garuspik You should sell these as quickly as possible! Quite impressed with your work. FR-wise the measurement looks fantastic. But it's still a bit hard to know non-FR things (e.g. resolution, dynamics, ..) .. yes I mean I also want to hear verum firsthand so badly!

Also want to know your upstream gears (cdp/dac and amps) to voice your products.

When do you estimate to take orders of verum?

Thanks. I've spent huge amount of time to reach this.

    I hope it won't disappoint community ;)

I'm more about speakers and started from speaker building. So I listen music not from headphones dedicated components:

    Lp: micro seiki bl-91
    Digital: Sotm sms-200
    Dac: Wadia 27
    Speakers: self-made
Amplifier: exposure 3010 and self-made pass aleph 5 clone

And I connect my headphones and other factory-made headphones directly to speaker output of my amp.

To achieve a price ~300$ I need additional equipment: moulds, stamps, order some parts in bulk etc. So during 3-4 weeks I guess I'll go to Kickstarter and ask people to support this project.
I've started this thread to show to community what I has reached. I don't want to be a person who acts like: look at pics of unknown gadget ad give me money only because of promises. Those headphones do exist, I can answer any question regarding their construction and they are sent to several people with good reputation from different countries and after I hope positive reviews we'll move to the stage: please give me the money :D

p.s. @cskippy can confirm - when he first proposed me help with review (almost a year ago) he also proposed me a deposit for those headphones and sure I didn't took money. This project is not about build 100 units, earn some money and forget about it. My dream is to found a new company on this narrow market. And whether I succeed or not depends on how many people will be interested in Verum project.

You could start with 100 units, not bad for this market for an unknown company and have distribution and customer support related issues polished in that time.

Any chance you can have Massdrop interested in your product?

Based on everything I have read in this thread and just wondering out loud here, I wonder if you don't have a HP closer to $500, particularly if you get the SQ details right.

Just speaking for myself, if it sounds good I will take mine in wood, no wood, artificial wood, fake wood, ugly wood, sexy wood....

@Garuspik Saw the beginning of your project on drHead and am amazed how far you were able to get in this short of a timeframe. Considering how business unfriendly it's been lately in our homeland, your achievements with this project are quite extraordinary.

Getting a positive exposure in these waters is another tough task you seem to be handling quite well. This is the right track for a success and I wish you best of luck in endeavor with Verum. Keep up the good work, МОЛОДЕЦ!
