I tried to buy back my Balancing Act. He said no and then I tried again after some years and he had sold it!! I have since purchased my Zana Deux back and really don’t want to sell it again. Feel ya.

I have the purported family turd ... ZDSE. Unless I suffer a catastrophic issue it will never be for sale as I enjoy how it sounds with a few select driver tubes.

Warming up here. I think it dropped as low as 27C some days. And I had to wear socks to walk on the cold tiled floor.

What I couldn't take, though, are those places that hot 40C in the summer, like we do, but dip to big minuses in the winter.

Come out to the east coast @slankoe! +9 here today, although it was -10 here a few days ago, it doesn’t usually ever get any colder than that. Plus beaches in summer :)

A headphone costing 2X sounds better? No way...

I can't say Auteur has convinced me that it's worth it's cost over the D7200, but I have to appreciate it doing just enough better that I'd be pressed to spend more for the Auteur. Yes, the Auteur gives me some G.A.S.

Been thinking of doing the opposite, selling my 800S for a Utopia to run on my ZDS. How has your experience with the change been?

Otherwise, I did hear the Utopia a while back. It was a dose of heaven, but did not distract me from the path of buying the HD800, which I now have.

Utopia is still the best headphone out there for accuracy, hands down. The HD800 is different, but I wouldn't call it a direct downgrade in most ways. It does the trick well enough.

If I'm financially well off again I'd buy another Utopia, or whatever comes out to "top," it by then, maybe a Verite. HD800 just might stay - I love them even if they are a bit different.

Won't argue it's a shitty company. I just don't think it's as clear cut as you make it out to be with your optics.

An original doesn't need to stand up to its copycat. The copycat product deserves to be universally hated and despised.

Planars never seem to image that well, it seems to be simply due to physics of the operating principle of planar magnetic design. I generally find technical superiority in the dynamic driver headphones.

Agreed. But planars have that weight and impact that dynamics can only dream of (TH900 gets close tho).

That's why we need at least one dynamic and one planar.

Honestly MX4 and LCD-4 (+Phonitor 2) helped me realize planars aren't crap like I judged from my experience with LCD-2 pre-faz and hifiman. I would be so down to try an LFF modded Hifiman HE-6/HE-5. Seems like winners.

I feel like Utopia does impact on par. But planar bass is special. Feels like it comes from you at all angles. Pleasant for sure.

Not really. I think Etymotics deserve praise for very high performance, which is well worth the cost and then some. The most well put together IEM I've ever heard. QC, reliability, build, sound quality and cohesiveness. Having a true neutral reference is great.

Whether or not it's good, fact remains that it's a rip-off. The fact that it sounds great is more a testament to KB's work than anything else.

They aren't mine to send. I just got a chance to try them... but I'd really like to hear what purr1n thinks of these.

Ultimately I don't care about the CA/LH shit because no one freaking actually knows, and its not my bizz. I'm also not a customer since I'm already happy with the gear that I have and for the chance to try different things.

Other folks have done direct comparisons andro to katana and had the same result with the katana being clearly superior.

What is your source? Andros are very OI dependent, they could easily sound bad with the wrong pairing.

@Merrick Interesting. I was using my Samsung Galaxy S8, but I also tried on the ZDT Jr. low Z output. Didn't notice a huge change.

Still I feel it won't satisfy me unless bass quality is improved or at least quantity reduced, as well as that treble glare and lack of air on top. My preferences are too specific and I had too many expectstions before trying them.

My first impression is that it sounds nice but I'm not sure I can even judge yet. lol Thanks for the spoiler alert

I think having the Gungnir Multibit - XLR-to-RCA in WA7 and Utopia with it to colour my perception. I could see the built in DAC sucking considering the chip is used on portable players. My bias is showing now, and it takes guts to be objective... won't have this unit here for very long sadly, cause it's so pretty. But, that's not what matters - sound is.

This remembers several girlfriends that I dated. Very pretty, but as soon they start to talk, the date was over.
