Dunno. It's been a week and I can't seem to love them. Swapped in some cheapo 10s and the magic came back.

I went through the same process and fell for the smooth tone and background, and bought a LIM. It took me a couple weeks owning one to miss all that resolution. I don't hear the lack of background unless I directly a/b the A2 to another DAC

I hope Schiit makes an A2 Uber with a better Analog stage. That would be an awesome DAC.

I read an interview with Moffat some time ago where he said the A2 was the best he would probably do without resorting to stuff like silver wiring or fancy boutique parts. Things change though, an actual upgrade to the Yggdrasil would be interesting to see.

@CEE TEE: I'd have to look under the hood for the exact numbers on choke inductance and PT specs but it's definitely overbuilt. In a nutshell, the PSU uses 816 MV rectifiers bridged with 6ax4 dampers. Filter caps are all film instead of electrolytic. Separate filament regulation for both drivers and power tubes ect.

@rhythmdevils: Would be glad to. Things will be a bit hectic for the next few weeks (new job ect.) but hopefully I'll be able to form some impressions by the end of next month.

No deadline or stress I’d just love to know how it sounds especially with ottos.

I'm not even into gaming but half my engineering work team is so hooked on this. They spend the first 5 minutes of Zoom meetings comparing notes, etc. Must be the video game version of crack.

Sounds about right. I don’t game much anymore but this pulled me back in.

Time to switch back. If I put a new dac in and my first thought after letting it warm up is that I want to go back to what I had, I just do that. That’s one reason I knew Dave was gonna be good, that didn’t happen, had it in for two weeks before I did any comparisons

Just switched back and definitely prefer the Yggdrasil. I'll prob jot down a few impressions on the weekend before letting the Lampi go.

Alternatively, if you're able to find a used Metrum Pavane or Adagio at a good price and you plan to use XLR outputs, those are probably an even better way to spend your money.

I haven't spent too much time with the Metrum stuff but I briefly had a Morpheus. Not sure how it compares to a Pavane but I strongly preferred my A2. It wasn't bad overall, just a bit too polite for me.

Save for the Abbas 4.1SE, which has been great but not too reliable. I haven't heard a NOS DAC that I've been crazy about. That being said, I've heard enough qualities that I've liked in the best ones, to keep searching for something that may fit.
