I use an Astro Mixamp - ZDS - HD580. It’s ridiculous and stupid but it sounds good. Would love to try the GSX1000 though and a headphone with better “headstage”. Tried the Beyer T1 for gaming and its unbareablly sharp and bright.
As long as I get decent location accuracy and it doesn't sound like complete ass, I'm good. I usually just plug my DT880 into my Yamaha receiver when gaming in the living room. On PC I use my main setup since it is right next to me.
I used my full system Gungnir Multibit>ZD>HD800 for PC gaming and it was really impressive for location accuracy but I actually have an easier time hearing all around me with planars.
What is this PC gaming of which you speak? I am just a simple frozen caveman teacher. I only know of location of rocks on cave floor. Music only comes from ass. Flabby bass, treble can be painful depending on previous meal. Not only sounds like ass, but smells too.
@Ringingears Remember Carmageddon? Supposedly early testers found it unpalatable to run over healthy humans for sport, so they replaced the graphics by zombies. Now that's *PC* gaming.
Watching metalwork and machine videos, listening on HD800s. The crazy thing, though, is how they make me sit up and listen whenever there's music. Yes: even music via youtube. HD600s are damned nice, but they don't do that.
@bengo I remember something about it. It was about the time parents were voicing concerns about violence. What I do remember playing was the first DOS version of Wolfenstein. Took me an entire weekend to install and get it working. It got flack too.
Apart from the ZDT you're doing what a whole bunch of well-heeled gamers do with the HD800.
Btw, I'm told the Win10 "Windows Sonic for Headphones" software surroundofier thing is often competitive with solutions like the hardware codec the GSX has. Try it out maybe?
