Was there a shooting w/ politician threats or is this all corona related?
I understand why people would prepare, etc... but this is basically amplified flu... it's not like the water lines and the kitchen sink won't work, mass violence/riots are occurring, US is being attacked by foreign power, big natural disaster, etc...
Also there is this friend of a friend on Facebook who is an aggressively evangelizing antivaxer and prepper that said the other day: “if people haven’t been preparing themselves for a govt takeover then that’s on them.” So lots of twisted viewpoints out there.
It's Corona related. The online ammo places are showing low stock too. In Iowa gun ownership is pretty common since we are a shall issue CC permit state. I was just surprised that the gun/ammo hoarding was happening to this extent. Other areas might not have shocked me so much.
I guess I'd consider myself a low level prepper. Like maybe a 3 on a scale of 1-10. I probably keep a couple months of food around and I regularly order ammo because I like to shoot for fun. I don't think that's uncommon in my area. In any case I think this Corona Virus thing is 99% hype, but I'm not ignoring the probability that crazy people overreact and make problems worse.
The risk is real, but the overreaction is creating a strain on all systems. However, being able to shoot ground varmints in rural areas might be useful for multiple reasons. Wash hands, don't touch face, avoid interacting with people showing illness, act calmly and be supportive of those that may need help.
