Wording sounds quite problematic anyway. He might say based on some prejudice on certain brands (onkyo and polk right?) or totally different/irrelevant model (both have a broad range of product lines) experience though.

I would have expected, "Hey, if you're looking to upgrade something, I'd think about your speakers and amp. Everything else you've got is solid." lol... I just thought it was funny.

It was poor wording on his part. I would have said something like "Your system has room for improvement."

Lousy salesmen insult the customer.

Although, in the crazy world of audiophools, feelings of inferiority are never far below the surface. Maybe it can make sales sense to hit them full on.

That insult can work on someone with deep pockets if they fear they can not be enraged with the music and only listen to their gear. Synergy matters, but to them their stuff is better than anything else.

I'm ready to treat myself to something new, and was leaning towards a cart. I'm open to getting new speakers, but my amp punches above its rep.
