I feel similarly a lot of the time. I do not consider myself to have "special" hearing or "golden ears." So it still takes me aback whenever anyone asks me for my opinion on gear.

Heck, my right ear hears bass much better but is crap at almost everything else. Left ear is worse at bass but better at everything else.

Another twister: Everyone have their own sensibilities and thus pay attention to selected properties of the sound. Not that they are not able to hear everything else, it's just not on the radar.
